The old latch was put on by the house builder (new house) circa 3 years ago and its typical cheap rubbish. High winds have bent it several time and I have bent it back - enough.This is made in Preston and you can tell, much thicker metal on all parts and well dipped in zinc to prevent rust. Fitted very easily - even the wood screws are good quality. If you need a timber gate latch I would happily recommend this one. Its twice the price and a bit more than others on the site - but you get what you pay for.

Sturdy but not brilliant finish
Item bought to replace similar latch which had rusted i.e. probably not galvanised. This one states "hot dipped galvanised", which is supposed to be one of the best processes, so let's hope this proves to be the case. Whilst it is solid enough, the finish is a little rough in parts but, hey ho, it's only an outside gate latch. For previous one-star reviewers - if the pivoting ring is a little tight, put a bit of oil on it; if it doesn't latch properly, you probably need to adjust the position of the receiver. Screws were provided but they were a little long so I had used my own shorter ones. Easy to install so am prepared to recommend this if you want a reasonably priced sturdy ring gate latch and are not looking for a very smooth or stainless steel type finish.

Sturdy gate latch
Very sturdy gate latch. Lots of gate latches have bad reviews due to being flimsy and breaking easily. I bought this despite some reviews saying it was a but rough round the edges. Well it is a bit but it looks good and sturdy and does the job well so worth buying.

It fits and works for me, after small tweak.
This fits and replaced the exact same lock on my garden door, which was damaged by the recent storm. The vendor provided 2 inner connecting rod to suit different depth of door. Unfortunately my door is somewhere in between. Fortunately for me, I can re use the old rod from old lock and saving the the trouble to cut short the rod.
