As Good as the First!
The quality of Abnett's series remains at an impeccably high standard. The work of The Ghosts takes a slightly different direction now but their story continues.....

Abnett continues his quality streak.
I've just about given up on trying to predict Abnett's plot twists. First I'm thinking no that's too obvious so it must be heading in another direction, but then he knows that I know, and it just goes on and on until I've no idea. I swear it's like he's tormenting me!This time Gaunt's Ghosts take on properly trained chaos soldiers. Using their skills to their advantage and claiming a brilliant victory from the jaws of defeat, the lord general reconsiders his tactics. Unfortunately this involves a deadly mission with certain death involved. Business as usual then? While this can't quite compare in battle to the previous two books, it does have it's own flavor with a compelling set of side stories which makes it an excellent read.

All guns blazing
Dan Abnett's Ghosts return for their fifth misadventure. They're STILL fighting Chaos cultists, but for the first time the enemy stands a chance against the Imperial army. The Blood Pact is a supposedly dangerous regiment of trained Chaos light infantry. The new enemies quickly make a mess of everyone who gets in their way - all except the Ghosts, of course, who never have a problem taking the Chaos troops down. The initial dropship landing sequence is as exciting as it is original. After that you can expect the usual two-handed hammer punch to the gut in the form of mind-bendingly exciting battles, incredible tension, frankly crap characters, false suspense (e.g. "dead" characters surviving by the silliest margin of luck), ridiculous uber-powerful women and invincible Imperial Guard. This is definitely my second favourite book in this series, with only Necropolis surpassing it for excitement and ultra-violence. A pity it's so riddled with Abnett's usual irritating flaws, as listed above.

Another well crafted Ghost's novel.
The Guns of Tanith is the fifth in the Gaunt's Ghost's series and trucks along at the same raucus pace as the last two novels. Dan Abnett seems to have really hit his stride with the series in Necropolis and has not let up since. The fighting is fast and plentiful with the strong characters really tying it all together. This novel has furious action and notable depth for a great read! Warhammer 40k Imperial Guard/military sci-fi fans should check this out.

A perennial favorite...
This is one of the best of the Gaunt's Ghosts novels, and also where the plot really starts to thicken, pudding surprising developments that continue to have effects through at least book 14.

Another win by Dan Abnett
This takes a bit of a different tone than the earlier books in the series, in a way setting the tone for the later volumes. Great character development, loads of action and the quality that's Dan Abnett make this a great choice and a must have in your Black Library collection.
