Why is the Ballistic LT or the Schimano Ci4 more than this ?
Arrived on time and in Great condition. Reel is super smooth and getting better with use. Casts extremely well and the drag is super smooth as well. My first Diawa reel was a BG 2500 and I LOVE IT, especially because of the price. I wanted to treat myself to a high end reel and was looking at Stratics and the Diawa Ballistic. Call me old school, but I still have a thing about a reel being made of metal, the Stratic Ci4 and the Ballistic are both composite materials and this is 2018 so I am sure they are strong, and I was really close to going with the Balistic over the Stratic mostly because of the size of the gears and drag washers in the Ballistic. Both are physically larger in the Ballistic than the Stratic. Then there is the bearing count, the Saltist has 9, Ballistic and Stratic have 7. At the particular time I was looking the Saltist was between $195 and $199 and the Balistic was anywhere from $10-20 more. I was in a total quandary as to which way to go. Then I got one of those emails from Amazon and the Saltist went down to $145.00. That made up my mind, in my head it seemed to me that from a construction standpoint that the Saltist should be more expensive, it is slightly heavier than the Ballistic, (less than a wrist watch difference), but has more bearings, and is aluminum, so I pulled the trigger and put the extra $50 into a better rod than I had planned on getting originally. Plus the rod matches the reel and it looks SWEET and fishes like a dream.

Awesome and undervalued!
This reel deserves more love. It's competitive with same priced Shimano and Penn but most skepticism comes from the magseal design. Magseal is a relatively new technology in a reel but is proving itself. The more stories I hear the more I want to give it a shot. It has a bearing line roller that is mag sealed which is something many have asked for from Daiwa. The air bail andp composite rotor makes the reel very responsive. And smooth? My reel is silky smooth I also have the Saltist MQ 6000. My understanding is that they are not the new and old saltist as they fill a separate price point and niche. Hopefully this reel isn't going away and I'd suggest picking one up especially if you find a good deal as they often have. I'm considering picking up another if found at the right price.

Fantastic Reel for a stellar price
I have a 3000 saltist and LOVE IT! My husband was hinting about a 4000 so I picked this one up for a Christmas gift and gifted early so he can use this weekend! We love these reels. Super smooth feeling, great drag! Built very well! Will definitely buy more

Diawa Saltist 5000 fishing reel
Excited to get my new fishing only to find that the item has a manual bail. The bail on the reel does not close when you turn the handle. The reel does seem to be very good quality and Diawa has alway given me much satisfaction.

best bang for the bucks
better than BG and water resistant so u can use on the boat, dont try to swim with it like vanstal and u should be ok. the design of this is excellent, i like the power of saltist over Penn Slammer, although i love the slammer knob but it would never be as smooth as Saltist, and this smoothness is the level of Stella, and yes i have 2 stella SWB and SWC both 14k, all 3 are about the same , i havent caught any over 40lbs with saltist so i dont know if it will still hold . i bought another 4500 on ebay just for spare. why do i have too many reels? because I can.

Must have for anglers
This is must have for all angler. I have the 4000 model but i felt i needed more lines so upgrade to the 5000. Really smooth and had no trouble pulling in my catch. All my friend love this. Its pricey but worth it. I paid about the same price at bass pro shop for a smaller model. Covid 19 was reason i wasnt able to return it and got this bigger model instead. I will keep both model. Always love daiwa.

Smooth Drag
2 things I am disappointed in. The reel was in an EBAY box and not all parts were delivered in the manufacturers box. The 2nd was the instructions. The instructions did not clearly show how to assemble or use all the items that came in the baggie. I really like the drag. it is very smooth. The reel is light weight and will be nice for those long days of casting.
