Q: What's the difference between this FW version and the Saltwater version?

The bacteria in each is different. One is saltwater acclimated and the other freshwater acclimated.

Q: Can this be used with live planted tanks?

I have never used it in a live planted tank, but the manufacturer should be able to help with that answer. I would assume it would be safe since it is a bacteria culture. The manufacturer says it is safe for plants and even invertebrates which are very sensitive to water chemistry. If you have a tank with live plants the plants should be able to control the growth of algae’s etc., if that’s your problem.

Q: Work for stubborn red algae? I’m currently doing to 50% water changes per week to keep it clean.

Yes it does. But you must follow the direction exactly. Remember 1ml per 10 gallons and only once a week on the same day and same time. I did my every Friday morning. it took about 27 days to get rid of the green algae and about 51 days to get rid of the red algae. if your tank has no fish you can increase to 2ml per 10 gallon but if you have fish keep it as directed on the bottle

The Activated Carbon does not have to be removed
