Extremely well written, easy to follow. Would recommend to buy the CD version as it helps in understanding and learning the appropriate pronunciation.

Been learning from it from a past few weeks and it is really helpful in teaching Dutch grammar. The exercises are helpful and challenging and teaches a lot. Would be easier to learn if you are aware of the general vocabulary beforehand though.

This book has been a great jumping off point for learning Dutch. I took about two chapters a week (had a trip deadline) and am excited that I can now have basic reading comprehension and writing skills. I created flash cards from the vocabulary words and phrases and I plan to go back through and re-do the exercises to solidify the concepts until they become more like drills. The app was a really great companion, but I don't imagine I'd have listening comprehension to keep up with a native speaker, even if they spoke slowly. I'm definitely better at reading Dutch than translating my thoughts into Dutch, but I have tried a few free-writes. This books is just a starting point. Some of the conversation examples in later chapters were confusing because the two characters were not actually listening and responding to each other, but rather having two separate conversations. E.g., going to a butcher and ordering meat while simultaneously asking how a vacation to Spain went. While conversations in real life can have multiple threads, a beginner book should have single-thread conversations. Despite it's faults, I'd still recommend this as a good starting point for anyone interested in the language.
