These were a bit hard to light. But I used a few leaves and a piece of burlap to get them started. I can’t really say I smelled anything but what you would think smoke and fire would smell like. But after the burlap and leaves burnt out and gave a light cool smoke which is exactly what you need. I go into my hive once a week and this amount will probably last the season as I only have one hive. Unless I find a better type of smoke, because I believe burlap by itself is too much, I would use it again.

These do not work well and do not stay lit for long and put out very little smoke I am going back to the bags of starter wool or whatever that material is that bsmokes up way better than this lil gizmos.
