These are the first tools I’ve found that are thin enough to do very fine and intricate detail work without messing up the surrounding wax. I was worried when I saw other reviews calling them “flimsy,” but the tools are actually very sturdy and strong for how thin they are. They aren’t as bendy as others have claimed, and they shouldn’t break at all if you’re not being too heavy handed. They’re surprisingly firmer than the stainless steel surgical scalpels I’ve been using.I prefer carving harder waxes like green and gold, and these tools work extremely well without breaking or leaving skitter marks. They work beautifully on softer waxes too. Great for sculptural carving as well as simpler styles. Wax carving requires patience and gentle hands, regardless of the tools being used. Remember, its not the tools that make the artist, it’s how you use them. These have been amazing and saved me a lot of time trying to get hard to reach details. There are two “C” shaped tools that have been extremely helpful for creating a smooth base for any type of rounded edges, and you can always increase or decrease the shape of the curve with the straight tools afterwards.10/10 from me, you get more than what you pay for. It’s hard to find tools like this in jewelry supply shops, especially for such an affordable price.

Poor quality, flimsy, not for professional use

These are not the highest quality tools, but for wax carving they're perfect. There is a sort of metal pin that slides onto the blade from the bottom, and it may have been jostled loose in shipping. If so, you can unscrew the shaft and then slide it back up into the head assembly, then tighten it back down.The blades are very sharp and perfect for fine detail work. These aren't the same as some of the dental wax carvers available, which seem to have thicker edges and larger working surfaces. I was able to shave off very thin sheets of clay that I I haven't been able to achieve with just a scalpel or razor. The working surface is much smaller, allowing me to get into smaller spots than I usually can.My only complaint is that one of the blades only allows me to cut from right to left, whereas the rest of the blades allow for me to carve from left to right or away from me. It feels like I got a mostly right handed set with a single left handed blade thrown in by accident. On all of these, one side of the cutting edge is totally flat and the other side is sharp. On that particular blade, it's like they sharpened the wrong side, if that makes sense. Not a problem though, I'll work around it.

I'm using these to carve Sculpey Firm Polymer Clay. I have much better luck cutting and trimming poly clay than I do pinching and modeling it by hand because it warps and bends so easily, so I needed a good set of small sculpting tools. These are very small tools similar to exacto knives. The only thing that's missing is a good 'cup' shaped blade. It looks like two are included, but they are actually flat on one side and cupped on the other making a very shallow cup, if that makes sense. I'm not disappointed in the purchase though. I'll still use all these blade, and have already used most of them.
