Smoak is great stuff
Some would think you buy wood from one place, its the same everywhere else you buy. This isn't true, especially when the quality of wood you use for cooking. I could say a lot of good things, but one great thing I will say about Smoak is that they do a great job trying to give you the least amount of pieces with bark, if any pieces at all really. Last 2 boxes were completely bark free (bark does not provide the correct smoke wanted for cooking).I will state tho, if you are cooking with 100% wood, try using the smaller logs over the chunks (unless you just don't have space for the smaller logs). The small logs tend to burn slower and lower temps than the chunks, just easier to maintain temps when adding new wood to the fire.

Sweet, clean smoke! Look no further
Smoak Wood Chunks arrive clean and smelling fresh, and they burn even better. Full disclosure, I use these wood chunks with a Rec Tec BFG-2500 pellet smoker. Pellet smokers are easy and efficient to use, but they still lack that magical smokiness of wood-burning smokers. To bridge that void, I add Smoak Wood Chunks to the top of my pellet firebox with approximately 1-inch spacing between each chunk to avoid flare ups. I do not soak the chunks in water. The chunks smoke nicely for 4-6 hours and then I add more on top of the firebox (Get yourself some good thermo gloves to the elbow for this step). The end result is awesome. Smoak Wood Chunks burn cleaner and sweeter than other providers for my “hybrid” smoker application. I am so happy with the Smoak product and their approach. Thanks!!

The Red Oak is about the best wood you can buy
I have been smoking meats now for about the last four years. I have made many mistakes along the way. I have over smoked my food with hickory, mesquite, etc... This stuff has an amazing flavor, comes in nice large chunks, smells amazing, and pairs well with pretty much any kind of meat. Whether it be pork, beef, chicken, you can’t over smoke with this stuff. Buy with confidence!

Wonderful oak chunks
Wonderful oak chunks. Not too dried out, but not wet either. Terrific flavor for my beef jerky. $60 is kind of a lot for a box of wood but it's a giant box with huge chunks. I can put a blowtorch to a single chunk of wood and then let it smolder for 4-5 hours. Remember, white oak burns HOT. Hotter than post oak. Cold smoking in my WSM has never been easier.
