Each jar has a plastic cover under the lid with holes and a larger opening for things like celery flakes that don't go through the holes. There are a bazillion pre-printed labels, so I didn't even have to use any of the blank ones. The unit turns well and it's been enjoyable to use. It looks beautiful with our stainless steel appliances and it really dresses up the countertop! The only thing negative I have to say is that I didn't like the little funnel that came with it. I used it for pouring ground sage into a jar and the powder coated the entire inside of the funnel.
