how well would it work in a horse arena

I don't think the Magnet is strong enough to pick up a horse you may need to duct tape two together that should work

what diameter is the axel studs, you should be able to put a larger wheel on for rough surfaces correct ?

My unit (purch 1/'16)came with light-duty 6 3/4" dia lawnmower wheels, 1/2"-bored hubs. I set the height to the lowest setting, 7/8" clearance off the ground surface, using the wheel bolt slots in the ends of the magnet-box. Max height looks to be 1 7/8" but the pick-up strength would be proportionately less at the higher settings. For uneven ground the 2' wide magnet may be better than the 3' unit I was sent. I really hope the manufacturer has improved the handle length adjustment system however. The welded-on nut immediately pulled off the outer tube and I pressed on a steel bushing with a tapped hole for the knob-screw.
