Castle Art Supplies 48 Pastel Colored Pencils for Adults - Premium Quality

I bought these with lower expectations, since I do most of my work with Prismacolor and Derwent, but I ended up pleasantly surprised. These layer very well with my professional grade color pencils. I was not expecting that at all. They take a bit of work to build coverage, however I wouldn’t say they lack pigmentation – I think that’s just the nature of the pencils. They do have tint in their name, after all. The colors themselves are gorgeous. I recommend using them on toned paper! It really makes the colors POP. Based on the price, I am not anticipating high lightfastness, so I’ll be using UV protective finishing spray on anything that will be displayed. I suggest other “serious” artists do the same. Speaking as an experienced color pencil artist (15 years using the medium!), I love that this set comes with a guidebook on how to use color pencils to their full potential! The information is entirely accurate to my understanding of color pencils and I am thrilled that any novice artist who purchases these pencils will be receiving the guidebook. I think it will be an invaluable resource for some artists and hobbyists. Bravo, Castle Arts! You went above and beyond there. My only complaints so far are that a few of the warm tones are similar looking to the point that they may be almost indistinguishable to the untrained eye and I would have liked to see another off-grey tone or two. Not dealbreakers by any means. I could see this color pencil set making a wonderful gift for a student, hobbyist, or casual artist. I would not recommend these to professional fine artists unless they keep their expectations reasonable and realistic. Remember, these only cost $35, and with art materials, you get what you pay for. Still, what a fun set of color pencils! The unique color palette makes these stand out amongst the other color pencils of a similar quality/price currently on the market. I do not regret giving them a chance. I am sincerely hoping that Castle Arts will eventually offer individual open stock for purchase.

So, what do I like about Castle Arts Pasteltint pencils: 1. They are soft and creamy, easy to put in layers. 2. They work great with any type of paper, no matter if it is thick and glossy or thin and toothy. 3. Beautiful colors. They are delicate but not dull. My favorites are the Daisy Blue, Inca Gold, Juniper Lime and Blue Poppy shades. Also I like the skin tones and the two neons (Lime Coral and Jasmine) 4. They are placed in a stylish tin box with the two sturdy trays. 5. They work great in combination with the regular basic colored pencils, metallic pencils and the neons. What I do not like about Castle Arts Pasteltint pencils: 1. Despite of the wide color range it is not enough to use the set independently. I feel the lack of the following colors: light red, light brown, yellow and green. But still, in combination with the basic colors/metallics/neons you will barely notice the problem. More over, I’m pretty sure, you will be happy with this set apnd that’s why the product got 5 stars not 4. Highly recommend!

This is an addition to my collection of Castle Art colored pencils and it did not disappoint! Beautiful pastel colors, all different from the colors in my 120 color original set. They preform absolutely beautifully and I love that they come in a nice tin case. Castle Art has not disappointed me ever. So very happy!

LOVE these colors!! Bright, Light & Soft ALL in one! New at re-Coloring, haven’t done it since I was a kid. Colors come out nice on the paper in the “Grow Ups” coloring book. I don’t have a heavy hand when coloring so I do have to work to get a deeper or louder color to come out. I haven’t had any problems when it comes to sharpening them. I do use a hand sharpener. But… I WOULD BUY THEM AGAIN!!

I ordered this set of pencils to supplement the castle arts soft touch set of pencils as they are extremely lacking in any light colors outside of yellow and orange. Like the soft touch pencils, these are soft and pigmented, but they also run more towards the waxy side. If you like that feel, you will love these pencils. There are some very beautiful colors in this set. The greens however, are quite waxy and to lay down a little more clumpy and are hard to lay smooth. The bayberry pencil especially was tough to lay down smooth. I sharpened all of these pencils with an Afmat electric pencil sharpener (highly recommend it), not a single lead broke. I had one lead that did crumble a little bit, even after sharpening a second time, but that does not seem to be the norm for these pencils. Although I personally am not an artist, just a colorist, I would not call these artist quality pencils. However, these are great for a hobby colorist that just wants some pretty colors to put in a coloring book. These are definitely colors that were missing from the soft touch set and so compliment that set very well. If you like to do a lot of light layers when you color, that would be a challenge for you with these specific pencils, but not impossible. These pencils lend more towards a moderate pressure when laying them down. These are not bad pencils at all, but may not be to everybody's taste.

I ordered these and the Harmonious set to go with my 120 Soft Touch set by Castle Arts. They are smooth, they do blend well and feel comfortable in my hand. I will enjoy them for quite some time! Now I must mention the excellent service I got from Amazon Customer Service. The first time I ordered the Pasteltint, Harmonious set and 2 pencil cases the order made it as far as Waco, TX and then just disppeared! I contacted Amazon Customer Service who acknowledged that the order had gone missing and refunded my money. Next I ordered everything for a second time. This time the order did make it to my hometown but not to my pickup point. I asked around, checked everywhere and it could not be found. Once again I had to contact Amazon Customer Service. The gentleman who helped my was wonderful! He did not disconnect until he had cancelled the previous orders and marked them missing and ordered a replacement order for me. I finally recieved my entire order 2 days later. So thank you Amazon Customer Service for being so helpful and understanding.

I had Holbein pastels already and found that the Holbeins are a dense, thick, waxy pencil. When I color with them, they feel dull and flat. I decided to try the Castle Art Pastel tints to see if they were lighter in comparison. The colors are very similar, and they feel and look much lighter on paper compared to the thick Holbein pencil texture. Not only that, the Pastel tints have a glow to them, and do not have that dull appearance that Holbeins give. I am very happy with the Patel tint and wish I bought these long before I spent the obscene amount I spent on these Holbeins. As a final word: the Holbeins are more-so a “bold” colored pastel pencil, and the Castle arts are more of a literal “pastel” tone.

This pastel set was the largest set so far of Castle Arts colored pencils. They are really pretty. The tin was in a box and arrived in great shape. I’ve been a primacolor user for a few years now. I have a neighbor that uses Castle Arts pencils and I thought I’d give them a try. i bought two of the collection sets in 2022 but, haven’t really used them. My bad! They are very nice pencils. They lay down nicely. No waxy buildup. Mind you I’m new to them but so far they are holding up well, no breakage. I’m light handed and tend to add light layers. I would recommend them for sure. I see a big set in my future!

Lovely quality and the colours are an excellent mix if you like pastels. They sharpen to a nice point as well.

Ces crayons sont juste sublimes. Ils sont arrivés très bien emballés et protégés, dans une boîte en carton dur, elle-même contenant une boîte métallique ravissante, contenant les crayons 😍 À l’intérieur de cette dernière, on peut retrouver des petits fascicules, et évidemment les fameux crayons. Concernant ceux-ci : couleurs pastel très jolies, beaucoup de nuances ! Je ne m’y connais pas en crayons de couleur, à vrai dire ce sont les premiers que j’achète de qualité, mais ils me semblent très bien ! Ils s’estompent un peu quand je passe le doigt dessus, c’est également assez simple de faire des dégradés, et que dire de plus ? Je suis enchantée, vraiment 🌟
