I had to test this with my lux meter to see if the other reviews were accurate by saying that it only blocks 50% or less, not as advertised. My meter shows in full sun without the tarp between ~1020 and ~1137 lux. Under the tarp about a foot away it read ~370 and ~480. That works out to about 60% blockage, as advertised. Still though, it is not as good a sun blocker as your popular sun sails, though it is still a good product for protecting plants. Kind of cheaply made though, and I am wondering how long it will last.Update: two seasons and it is still going strong.

Product was the size I needed, and finished edges with grommets made it easy to install without clips. The material is very porous, and if you are looking for an opaque tarp, this isn't it. It does provide just enough shade to protect the garden from the 100 deg. heat. I suspect it will also provide some hail protection, but we'll have to see about that. The wind goes through it, so it doesn't get easily blown away. So far, just what I was looking for. Will have to wait and see how durable it is.

I bought it for a balcony to shield from the morning sun rising from the east. What a difference it made. It isn't super dark where we dont get any sunlight, but it did help to where we got enough. Not only that, it helps shield from mosquitos and other flying pests. It also provides enough privacy where we can see out and people can barely see in. Our balcony door is constantly open, so it's the added shield we need.
