In 1959, RCA Nashville producer-guitarist Chet Atkins brought Jimmie Driftwood's Tennessee Stud to Eddy Arnold and gave 'The Tennessee Plowboy' his first major hit in three years. That success, scored in the wake of the Kingston Trio's Tom Dooley, prompted the Atkins-Arnold team to prepare an album of folk-based saga songs, 'Thereby Hangs a Tale.' in 1963, a second 'folk' album, this with an exclusively Western theme, reprised Arnold's 1955 hit, Cattle Call. This 25-song collection brings together all the 1959-1963 'folk & Western' recordings of country's Crosby, souvenirs of a time when saga songs became hit records.

Good classic songs. Wife had this as a kid so she ordered it. It is in her car CD player and we have listened to it a few times already.

If you Love "Cowboy" this is it!
This CD was better than the origianal LP I owned in the ;70's. And only Eddy Armold can sing them like he was part of this era of American history. If you like the cowboy era, this CD is certainly one to add to your collection of Western music.Eddy captures the heart of Cowboy.

and I was so happy to find it
My mother and I used to listen to this album when I was younger, and I was so happy to find it! It takes me back to the old days when things were much simpler and life was easier.

what a voice!
Enjoy listening to most country and western music. Eddy Arnold has a unique style. Beautiful voice! Love the selection of songs he sings. Some lyrics make me sad while others put a smile on my face. Great album and I would recommend to anyone.

I need not have worried as they were all there and just as good as I remembered them
I bought this CD as a replacement for an old worn out LP (Thereby hangs a tale} that I owned many years ago. One of the problems with buying from Amazon is that you cannot see what songs are on the CD. so I had to take a chance that all my old favourites would be there, I need not have worried as they were all there and just as good as I remembered them. The extra songs of Cattle Call were a real bonus, I had heard most of them before by other singers but Eddy did a real good job of them.

Great Sound
So many great songs to listen to on this album. It's hard to choose one from the 25 tracks on offer but ' Cattle Call' is my favourite song.
