Never cut mats before but this tool made it easy.
Works well. Easy to use if you comprehend the concepts. It cuts at an angle with an angled blade. If you carefully follow the instructions you will end up with a perfectly cut mat the first time. Adjustable in many ways, great value.

A bit of a learning curve but it does the job
Make sure you practice on some scrap first since the instructions aren’t all that great and doing the corners is a bit odd. Use your test cuts to figure out the distance between the straight edge and the blade. At the corners go well past the intersection - even though it may seem too far it’s not. And use a good cutting mat and have a way to clamp a straight edge in place since the cutter’s springs are fairly stiff and you have to push down quite hard and that can move your straight edge and that’s a big problem when it occurs.

Easy to use and good quality
I have used a few NT products over the year so when I need to buy a bevel cutter to custom-cut the mat for my frames, I pick NT brand first. The blade is sharp and the instruction on the package is easy to comprehend. I cut the mat board on large cutting mat and a long metal ruler I already had. They came out nicely. The trick is to overlap the cut on each corner by 1/16 - 1/8 inch or so (you won't see the overlap cut mark anyway)

Very good for a DIYer
NT mat cutter worked well for my purposes. Once I figured out the technique to get the right bevel — angle of the cut — I was happy with the end result. Lots of trial and error. Instructions need to be much clearer. I improvised to achieve the results I wanted.

Easy to use, works good
Worked well for our first trial. We matted a puzzle we were framing. I was a bit nervous but all went well. Wish we'd had this year's ago, it would have paid for itself.

Blade veers off
It kept veering off of the ruler I had clamped down causing the cut not to be straight.

This Is The Mat Cutter You Want!
Wow. Wow wow wow! I've tried multiple mat cutters from both Logan and Fletcher and never had an easy time of it. A "good" mat worth using was always a compromise and almost never the first effort.I did one practice cut with the NT cutter. I then cut two mats, first try, no flaws, no compromises. Draw the window the back of the board; mark a cutting guide 3/8" outside your window; set up your straight edge; and go. The NT blade lets you cut both directions; set the depth gauge, and you know when your cut is complete.Cutting mats has always been a trial for me. Now, I'm actually looking forward to my next framing projects.

Crooked cutter base
The base of the cutter (plastic) is crooked (I wish it was made with the same material as the cutter grip, Aluminum cast). This condition caused crooked cuts as well while cutting regardless of the ruler's support. I ordered a second one (replacement through Amazon), and the same thing, the base is crooked!! As I was sure all future cutter orders/replacements may be the same I decided to do some modification. I have sanded down the plastic base, (see attached images). It works beautifully now. Beautiful cutter, but it does need a bit of practice to make it a perfect cut.Note:Accuracy, 3 stars before modification, 5 stars after
