Replacement Battery for APC BACK-UPS ES BE550R

This goes in my apc backup. Battery came charged and fit into the backup battery perfectly. The red light that was blinking by the on/off button did not go off, thus I thought the unit was defective. I found out online that all you have to do is to unplug it, and push the on/off button for 5 seconds, the light stops blinking, and the unit works. Very pleased. This is used at my job and there is nothing my boss dislikes more than spending money on new equipment.

I got this for 19 dollars from eComElectronics after looking at several different batteries and vendors. It was cheaper than buying a whole new APC ES550 for 50 bucks. Shipping was extremely fast (Prime), and the batt arrived the 2nd business day after ordering. It fit perfectly inside the ES550 case. I had pliers ready to crimp the leads, as I'd heard that the terminals were narrower than the original OEM battery. Didn't need them-- they slid right on and seemed snug.I let the new battery charge for 24 hours in the UPS with no load, all devices unplugged and UPS off. Then plugged everything back in and let it all sit for another 24. Pulled the plug and, voila- I had at least 5-6 minutes of battery back-up time for my CPU and one LCD screen. Certainly enough to cover the many brief power outages we suffer with Puke (formerly Lack-Of-Progress) Energy. And plenty of time for an orderly save and manual shutdown.I'm fairly pleased with this replacement battery, but a technical note about APC's PowerChute (Personal Edition) software. I was experiencing zero back-up time with the UPS, despite the software GUI showing 39 minutes of back-up time remaining. I installed the latest version of the PowerChute software (3.0.2), and found absolutely no difference in data or performance: 39 minutes claimed, zero back-up time reality. With the new battery installed, the APC software now claims 16 minutes remaining and, as stated, I have 5-6 actual minutes. Bottom line: It is difficult to rate this replacement battery other than by actual user experience, as APC's firmware & software do NOT play well together. I can recommend this battery based on my experience, with the caveat that "Your Mileage May Vary."

We use several APC battery back-ups at work and the batteries die after a few years. In the past, the cost of replacement batteries was nearly the same price as getting a new UPS unit. I was leery of using other manufacturer batteries and it wasn't clear which batteries worked with which units.After reading a review on Amazon, I peeled back the sticker/label on the OEM battery in my UPS unit and it exactly matched one of the options available on Amazon. The batteries without the extra OEM sticker were less than half the cost of a battery from an Office Supply store or from APC's website. Additionally, we don't have old UPS units to go into a waste stream. Our municipality recycles the old batteries for us.Amazon delivered the batteries in durable packaging in a timely manner. We have been using 6 replacement batteries since early Spring without a problem. I realize this is not a long-term service life confirmation but I will revise this review if battery life turns out to be a problem. I recommend this product.

The terminals on this battery are smaller than the APC original that I was replacing. I was eventually able to get them to stay in place while getting the battery back into the APC BACK-UPS compartment, however, it was not easy. I charged the unit for 24 hours before reconnecting it to my computer. Everything seems to be working as it should for the moment. The telling moment will be when the power goes out and then I will better be able to evaluate the charge on this battery. My concern is with the terminal being so loose that the battery will not really be fully charged when needed.

I just got it and installed it and it seems to be working find. My only complaint (and this is just a lack of my knowledge) was that it didn't tell me I had to plug it in and let it charge before plugging all my stuff. It would have been helpful for that to have been an instruction. I thought I had a defective product because it would start up for a few seconds then shut down. Of course that made my computer and everything else plugged into it shut down immediately. My husband finally suggested that it may need to be charged up before plugging in everything. I let it charge overnight and everything seems to be working just fine.

Have been using it for about a month, and so far, so good. Only problem was that the contacts were not the same as on the original battery, so it was pretty difficult to connect it correctly to the leads from the power supply and have them stick. Once I figured out how to do that (using some tape to hold them down as the battery was inserted into the case), it worked fine. Check back with me in a couple of years to see if it holds up.

I gave this battery this rating because the terminal width was not as wide as the original battery causing a sumwhat less than ideal replacement. The replacement battery has been in service now for a couple of months with no issues. I had to squeeze the terminals on the UPS wires ever so slightly to get them to engage the new battery lugs. Anyone with a low level of hands-on capability can do this replacement.

exactly as described - have had it installed in my battery backup for my computer for a few months now. 1/2 the price as buying name brand. go for it.
