I use cheap federal bird shot 7 or so. Melt 5 and can make 6 slugs so they are a little less then 1 oz. My first time casting anything from molten metal, and it much easier and came out much better than I could have hoped. Followed all of the mold prep directions, used only pure lead, used flux to get rid of slag, preheated the mold and poured quickly. Of the 30 slugs that I cast, only two had any wrinkling at all, and that was only because I poured those two too slowly.
