I bought this as a Mp3 down load has both the vocals and instrumentals , versions , First let me say my grammar is not great due to a head injury years back so no please excuse the poor grammar. That being said . I have been following / listening to Mike Oldfield for some 25-30 years , I am from the USA he has never really caught on big here as in Europe that being said , I would simply love to see him , He is on my bucket list of people to meet/see in concert before i get to old . Okay the album It takes a little to get use too , I found out about it went to You tube viewed some or all the videos was like what the Heck @ first with the new Male singer . Then secound time around listening to the videos , the lyrics , his tones were right on . with most of the songs . Male singer was a step "out of the Box" I went here reading the reviews , a bunch of you are ripping one of the best guitarist apart , others were saying it was okay work . I said well heck for the money what do I have to lose 15.00 bucks . it is a bucket of chicken . Well the Money was well spent for sure, I got on the web was able to find the lyrics to some songs and are really , intense also down the page here there is a review that breaks the songs down song by song of what they are about . I copied printed it . remember my head injury . So listening to it one two songs just are not my style but others wow hit right home , they are my life ! Mike went outside the box with a male singer young with 80's new wave look . That I also grew up in so can relate to that as well . I like the fact that there is the instrumental versions on the CD also since I have a wood shop and I have been playing both the vocal / instrumental in there since the purchase . When playing w/o vocals I have found myself lost in the world of old school , I do wood working taking out block planes and hand tools , instead of the power tools . I am trying to say that yes there is some deep instrumental work still in this CD It is just more subdued then the other Cd's he has produced . So would I recommend this Cd yes there is a song on it for every one or music for everyone , you just need be patient sit back relax let it happen and stop expecting a miracle to happen every time Mike puts a Album out . His work is always great far superior to much of the garbage coming out today by musicians that have little to no talent . This man has so much talent and age on them all . In this new recording will not find at all the style of music that usually plays mike. If that you are looking for, forget it. However, this is an album of pop / rock music very well done. The sound is very current (2014), stripped of repetitions of old styles. Okay Mike, very very good !!! The melodies are beautiful, the instrumentation excellent, and the election of the voice for this recording, very successful. While the music is different, the Oldfield style is immediately recognizable, through the characteristic sound of her guitars and the appearance of some bagpipes. This deluxe edition comes with a 2nd CD with instrumental versions of each track, each song that is equal to the 1 cd, but absolutely stripped of voices. Highly recommended for fans and for those who want to approach to the mike oldfield music from another angle. Greetings all !!! Sin embargo, este es un álbum de música pop / rock muy bien hecho. El sonido es muy actual (2014), despojado de repeticiones de viejos estilos. Bien Mike, muy muy bueno !!! Las melodías son hermosas, la instrumentación excelente, y la elección de la voz para esta grabación, un gran éxito. Mientras que la música es diferente, el estilo Oldfield es inmediatamente reconocible, a través del sonido característico de sus guitarras y la aparición de algunas gaita. Esta edición de lujo incluye un segundo CD con versiones instrumentales de cada pista, cada canción que es igual al 1 cd, pero absolutamente despojado de voces. Cela fait déjà tout juste 30 ans que j’ai acheté mon dernier disque de Mike Oldfield : Discovery ; et juste avant, l’autre incontournable album : Crises (Deluxe Edition) . En revanche, je n’ai jamais été un inconditionnel de l’album : Tubular Bells 2003 ; question de goûts... Ce nouveau CD Pop-Rock Irlandais de Mike Oldfield est très agréable à écouter. En effet, on ressent un plaisant et apaisant sentiment d’évasion à travers la plupart des chansons. On regretta juste l’absence de la magique et incomparable voix de Maggie Reilly qui a largement contribué au succès du groupe, notamment sur les célèbres tubes : "Moonlight shadow", "Foreign affair" et "To France" ! Mais la voix de Luke Spiller est également très mélodieuse. Mes deux titres préférés sont : "Nuclear" et "Chariots". Bref, on éprouve beaucoup de plaisir musical à l’écoute de ce nouvel album de Mike Oldfield ; plaisir d’autant plus exacerbé, que les albums du groupe sont particulièrement espacés dans le temps...

ÓTIMO DISCO, NÃO SE COMPARA AS GRANDES OBRAS DO OLDFIELD MAS GOSTEI MUITO DESSE DISCO.

The delivery was standard free delivery scheduled for 2-3 days: however the package arrived the very next day which was great. The cd was factory sealed, but unfortunately the plastic cd jewel case arrived with a crack across the front. This was very annoying. The crack was probably caused by a lack of padded packaging protecting the 2 CDs I had ordered. They were both crammed together in a thin card envelope not fit for the purpose of protecting jewel cases through the Amazon dispatch and delivery process. The CD itself was not damaged. In terms of the content of the CD Mike Oldfield Man on the Rocks, it is a very enjoyable album. Mike's distinctive guitar playing is instantly recognisable throughout the 11 excellent songs. Coupled with superb playing from all the other very distinguished musicians accompanying Mike on this outing. Luke Spiller's powerful, gritty and emotive lead vocal performances really enhance and match the feeling and direction of the album. The great thing about Mike Oldfield is he is always experimenting with different styles and directions with every album he produces. Shame he has now reportedly retired from music; however he does have an extensive back catalogue of albums which are a real joy to listen to.

Warning: it is not for background music. The more you listen, the more you hear! Over the years (too many to count yet?) Mike Oldfield has shown the world his musical versatility. He is one of the greatest composers and musicians of the ages. Over forty years after creating Tubular Bells and a five year pause after his last work The Music Of The Spheres, he now is presenting to us ten new songs plus a cover of a gospel. For individuals needing categories: it would be rock music. The various songs represent a range of styles that some might feel the need to liken to certain bands (Rolling Stones, U2). Careful listeners however will be treated to music that is unlike anything else in this world. It is uniquely Mike Oldfield; brilliantly composed and finely handcrafted by the cosmic talent. All he songs feature Mike's wonderful guitar play, in most: building up to a cathartic solo. As Mike has frequently done before, he again enlists a lead vocalist, Luke Spiller (of the Struts. Do look him up!)) to sing the lyrics. As Mike has always done: he picked an awesome singer to complement the music. Again, some will be compelled to liken Luke to great talents like Freddy Mercury, but the comparison is redundant. Luke Spiller's performance stands on it's own merit. Last, but not least: This "Deluxe" edition of the album also features a second disc, the instrumental version. The music without the vocals my be targeted for devoted Mike Oldfield friends only but I highly recommend the 2CD option to anyone. There is nothing wrong with the vocal version, but the music and play are so magical, it's just a pleasure listening to the instrumental version in it's purity. I will need a second CD rack for my Mike Oldfield collection now and I'm looking forward to filling it in the next forty years!

Oldfield dopo parecchio tempo produce un disco cantato come negli anni '80. Lascia le sperimentazioni degli ultimi anni per dedicarsi alle melodie cantate. Lo stile di Oldfield è riconoscibile, suoni e melodie da " Crises" o "Earth Moving". Forse non c'è quella novità dei dischi degli anni '80, ma si ascolta con gran piacere per la maturità musicale e il suono melodico che Mike ha saputo trasmettere. Forse come non mai nella sua carriera è presente il suono della chitarra in un solo Disco. Vi sono degli assoli veramente entusiasmanti. Il suono della sua chitarra è inconfondibile e unico. Sailing è sulla falsa riga di Moonlight Shadow. Stesso ritmo, stessa musicalità alla Oldfield. Man On The Rocks: molto solare e uno dei pezzi migliori dell'album. Molta melodia. Chitarra dal suono eccellente! Una voce forte e vibrante! Castaway: può sembrare ripetitiva, ma non si smette di ascoltare per la forza del riff. L'assolo di chitarra finale di Mike è semplicemente stupendo, ben 3 minuti da gustarsi a tutto volume. Minutes: spensierata e piacevole Dreaming in The Wind: un cenno agli anni '60. Molto simile al ritmo e al suono degli "Shadows". Nuclear: struggente e drammatica. Molto presente la chitarra, colpisce l'intervento di note basse fuori tempo. Chariots: bel pezzo di puro rock! Following The Angels: melodica, in perfetto stile Oldfield Irene: un'altro pezzo di rock dinamico. Suoni di chitarre abbondanti! In conclusione: ascolto Oldfield da Tubullar Bells e possiedo tutti i suoi album. Mi sono innamorato di questo Disco sin dall'inizio e non smetto di ascoltarlo più volte. Dopo tante sperimentazioni instrumentali e orchestrali, un ritorno alle melodie cantate. Bravo Mike, ha voluto cambiare. Ben fatto! Sono piacevolmente sorpreso che a 60 anni di età e dopo una lunga carriera in cui ha sperimentato di tutto, Mike sia riuscito a produrre un disco così melodico, vibrante e rock!
