3.25 STARS - LITTLE ON SURPRISES
Not your normal Highland story - no fight scenes except someone hitting you in the jaw. No aghast moments - just a simple story about two different cultures having misconceptions about each other. I haven't read the other stories in the series, so a stand alone. There is one villain, the H's mum, who is really a piece of work. I was upset the H's servants, nor his sister's explained what trouble his mother was giving to the h. That was disappointing to me. I wanted the H to have more of a back bone where his mother was concerned. Especially when his friend tells him she was even bitter to his father.Lovemaking, outside of marriage, described several times - heat level 3.5 out of 5. It's starts out more of lust for the H, but slowly turns to love.No cheating, HEA, nice epilogue, no cliffhanger for our couple, but you do wonder what happens to the h's twin, romance and steam. LOVE OVERCOMES PREJUDICES!!
The Marriage Mart Mayhem series has been a hit or miss for me but Highlander's Choice was a Big Hit!!Lady Sybil Lacey has traveled to Scotland with her best friend Lady Margaret Somerville. Lady Margaret is marrying The McKinnon Laird Duncan. Over the two weeks before the wedding Lady Sybil begins to overcome her prejudice and dislike of the Scottish people and there ways. She learns through her gradual romance with Liam MacBride The Laird of the MacBride clan that all she has heard about Scottish Lairds and Scottish people is not quite true. Liam has also has to overcome his prejudice of The English. His mother's intense hatred of anything English especially English titled Lady's has taught him to hate and pre judge the English. Until he meets and falls head over heals in love with Lady Sybil. The Highlander's Choice touches on issues of prejudice and pre conceived notions passed on by parents about other people. This story is very well done and very moving. It is also, very well written with lively believable characters. I loved how all the myths that the H/H believed are proven to be ridiculous and what they had been taught to believe was based oh hateful people and family that hated people they didn't understand. Believe me I know a little of what the Scottish suffered at the hands of the British. So I do understand how the hatred on the Scottish side could happen. But Liam and Sybil overcome all of this. They are one of the best written couples I have read in awhile!!The Romance between Liam and Sybil is lovely, sexy, sensual and believable. I loved both of these characters!!I Highly Recommend The Highlander's Choice by Callie Hutton!!

Pretty Good Story about overcoming prejudice
I have to say that I enjoyed The Highlander's Choice. Truly a wonderful story. I don't know where to beginning with my thoughts on this story. So, we have Lady Sybil and she has some personal prejudice against the Scots. She totally believe's that they are overbearing barbarians and her friend doesn't know what she's getting herself into. However, she comes to realization that they are just like her. They we have Liam who also has person prejudices against the English and that their woman are nothing but silly air headed women. Like Sybil he learns he's beliefs are incorrect. Okay, they make it over one hurdle and he wants to marry Sybil. Now this is where the story gets interesting. Oh boy, I would rather take my chances with wolves or even the Loch Ness monster than deal with Liam's mother.Prejudice starts at home. I personally think Sybil was just uneducated on other cultures, because her family is unique when it comes to differences. However, Liam's family has years of prejudice and his mother didn't help the situation. Personally, I wanted to strangled the woman. Oh my goodness, there are few characters I want to cause bodily harm and she's one of them. She was a bitch. She makes Cinderella's stepmother look like a saint. Awful person and she made no attempts to be nice. I have to give Sybil props because I would have said screw this I'm out of here. Sybil was trooper when it Liam's mother's torture. Poor Liam was walking a fine line he just wanted to keep the peace.Anyway, I enjoyed The Highlander's Choice, because it was good story that showed two characters overcoming prejudice and finding what matter most, love. Even though love is the answer to overcome prejudice, it's not always easy. I did enjoy Sybil and Liam's relationship because it didn't come easy, and they had to work through their issues before they found their happy-ever-after.Copy provided by Entangled via NetGalley

What a mother!
This book has a good plot and varied characters but a man who lets his mother behave in such a way to his intended is not my definition of a hero!

MIL from hell in the highlands
This is a really sweet and engaging story with humour and steamy scenes included. I enjoyed every chapter. I especially liked the insights into racial prejudice and old family wounds.Sybil and Liam meet at a friend's wedding and are instantly at each others throats because of their different nationalities. At first they taunt each other but this soon turns into teasing. The banter between the two is pretty funny. Then she goes to meet home to meet Liam's mum, a woman determined her son will not marry a hated sassenachs.Scottish Liam is a highland laird who has been bought up by his bitter mum to hate the English. Sybil is proud of her English heritage and does not understand how much the Scots have been hurt by British rule. The path to a HEA is not smooth but makes a great book that I highly recommend.

I love this series.
Book 5 - of the " Marriage Mart Mayhem Series " - Lady Sybil Lacey travels to the Highlands ( land of the barbarians don't you know ) with the bridal party for the wedding of her best friend Lady Margaret to a Laird. Liam the Laird MacBride has been brought up to have no trust in the English but as the grooms best friend, he will be here for him. In this novel you get the feeling that being English is like being Martian to Liam's mother. Quite amusing to read about but she reminded me so much of my mother-in-law ( the wicked witch! ). I really felt sorry for the young couple having to deal with the situation. I loved this novel because it was so lifelike to me - great characters - great story.
