Stellar for Kids
I bought a couple of these for myself/neices. I let them pick more. Agatha was a neice pick, which of course was total randomness. However, it was a total hit! Cannot say enough great things about this series!

Get ready to explain poisoning
I believe the idea for this book, and the others in the series, is fantastic. Talk about how the person came to become known for their works and what type of life they had. I only wish the story was more enveloping. I found the story to be a bit dull, and at times confusing. For a young reader, it makes little sense to say something like, "...she learned about toxic poisons..which could cause someone to meet an unfortunate end." And if I am going to stop to explain something to my child that she doesn't understand, I'd rather it wasn't about poison and murder. I also found the illustrations to be so out of character to what the actual person looks like, but that is just my personal preference. The highlight of the book was the timeline in the back, which showed actual photos of Ms. Christie from a child until her older years. This is not the type of book which would work well in schools, unfortunately, unless reading it allowed and even then, be prepared for questions when the text doesn't quite make sense to the young reader.

Agatha Christie for beginners!
This picture book biography of Agatha Christie is a perfect introduction to the author for the youngest of readers. The story is incredibly engaging as we follow young Agatha from her childhood love of books, through her volunteer work during the war and to her creation of Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. This short biography is a testament to the imagination, and I thought the author handled Ms. Christie's work with murderers and victims with just the right touch to make it appropriate for young readers. My favorite scene is of the elderly Ms. Christie standing in a cemetery along with the line "Agatha wrote more than a hundred books and invented enough victims to fill a cemetery!"While the sparse text does an admirable job of giving the reader a useful introduction to Ms. Christie's life, I found the illustrations to be rather flat and felt that the artist missed some opportunities here. All of the illustrations are in black and white with just one pop of red. I just didn't find them to be at all charming, but I imagine that is just personal preference. The story itself is followed by a short timeline of the author's life, including four actual photographs. This is an excellent choice for young readers taking their first steps with biographies. While I think it's lack of visual impact lessens it's usefulness as a group read aloud, it is still a worthy purchase for any classroom collection.

Not engaging
I don't want to knock this series, because I think it's filling an important role helping engage my 6-year-old with influential women. The problem is that this book (and the couple others we picked up) just isn't very engaging. While the artwork is interesting, the actual biography is frustratingly vague, in places glossing over decades and major accomplishments in a sentence or two.I think it's a fine line to walk between too little information and too much in a children's book, this landed solidly on the too little side - for me and for my 6yo, who hasn't revisited it since our initial reading. Contrasted with something for the same age group like Meltzer's Amelia Earhart and this pales by comparison.

Unusual, Enjoyable Biography for Young Children
This series is designed to remind us of Little Golden Books, but the story is a good biography for young children. I'm impressed by how well the text captures the most important points about the life of Agatha Christie, with a view toward inspiring young readers. Agatha Christie is not an obvious choice for a book on an elementary school reading level -- most young kids will not be familiar with her -- but this book tells the story of a brave young woman who combined her imagination and her experiences and became a successful writer. The illustrations are simple and charming, yet sophisticated in style and filled with intriguing details. There is a quick bio of Christie, with photos, at the end of the book. There's also a listing of other titles in the series, so I know that there are also biographies of Coco Chanel, Amelia Earhart, and Marie Curie -- it's wonderful to think of kids having the opportunity to learn about such a fine assortment of accomplished women.

Short, but cute
Agatha Christie may well be one of the most famous writers to exist. Her mysteries are legendary, as are the two characters she created to solve them. So it was with great interest that I picked up this book, to see what it had to say.The line drawings are wonderful, and were one of my favorite parts of the book. The story itself felt a bit simplistic, and could have used a bit more detail - but it wasn't terrible, either. Just...short. The last 2 pages were the best - photos of Agatha Christie through the years, along with a more fully fleshed-out biography of her that didn't feel like it was trying too hard to be readable for younger children. It would be great for a timeline of the author's life.Overall, it's a cute book, with fun drawings, and a neat take on someone who chose to write mystery books for a living.Kindergarten would probably be the best age for this,

Great series that teaches children about influential women in our history...
This series of books aims to inform children about some important female figures who had big dreams and show them that these dreams can be achieved if you try- I love this theme. This is a children's illustrated book that focuses on Agatha Christie and it just scratches the surface, giving you the most important and well-known facts about her life. Although the book does open up on some deeper issues (like murder), I feel this opens up discussions with your child on life morals and ethics. Overall, a good way to teach your children about influential, prominent women within our history.

Super cute book
Every page is an image of little Agatha Christie and how she grew up until she became a famous writer. You can read it to a child or to someone who is learning English.
