It's quite sturdy and good looking. But don't kid yourself. Unless you have some fabrication skills & a few hours to invest, this project is not for you. Buy the cheapo individual plastic hinges.First off, no holes from the old hinges will align and the instructions are vague & worthless. This job would have been a real bear, except for the fact that a few fellow Amazon users posted their install pics--something the mfg does not provide.Thanks to them I was able to figure out how to approach this thing and managed to get everything all lined up right on the first try without having to drill holes over & over. In that spirit I will do my part and upload a few pics of my install. Hope that helps. The holes in my toilet seat did not align with the hinge so I had to drill new holes. The instructions that came with the hinge were not detailed enough. The pieces in the pictures all look the same and it gave a brief description that just wasn't enough. You'll have to figure it out on your own. Once completed the hinge looks great and its a lot more sturdy than the plastic ones that most seats come with. Its a great buy if you have the patience to drill holes. Probably would be easier with two people working together to put it tomorrow. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars I would only recommend for use on a wooden seat *by A***I on Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2016* I would only recommend for use on a wooden seat. This hinge is very good quality hinge. Was not difficult to install, but it requires a little patience. First, install the post bolts into the toilet bowl. These are really your only two fixed reference points. Second, install the cross bar through the post bolts. The lid hinge brackets fit in the middle of the bar between the tank posts and the seat hinge brackets hold the end of the cross bar in place. Third, you have to judge for yourself how to center and align the old toilet seat with the toilet bowl. This should be centered on the left and right side of the bowl. Also be sure the seat does not extends too far out front or too far back. Basically, you need to be a little artistic with centering everything. Fourth, I removed all the parts and assembled on my workbench. I could not install the screws for the seat with the hinge installed on the toilet bowl. It was much easier on a table. Install the seat screws into the mounting hinge brackets. Be sure you center the brackets left and right, and keep the cross bar about 1/4" parallel with the rear of the seat. The screws did not line up with my old hinge. Be careful you don't drill through a thin part of the seat or lid, else the screws will come through. Fifth, I installed the seat and bar onto the toilet bowl. Sixth, To install the lid, I placed a small piece of wood underneath the lid as a spacer to align the lid when installing the screws. Again, the new screws did not line up with the old holes. I filled the old holes with wood filler. That was really it. Like I said, it requires patience. Also, make sure you spread the seat hinge brackets as far as possible. That will keep the seat from sliding side to side. The cross bar was wider then I expected. I did not realize it before I mounted the seat hinge brackets. Ideally I would have cut the cross bar about 1/4" shorter. This would prevent the seat from sliding side-to-side. One remedy as I mentioned, is to spread the seat hinge brackets as wide as possible before you attach the seat.Update # after about a month, the chrome finish is flaking off.
