Universal Typewriter Ribbon - 1/2 Inch Black and Red Ink Twin Spool Fresh and New SC20BR

Used this for my 1916 Underwood No. 5. I don’t use plastic spools in my machines, I only use the ribbon and respool it onto original metal spools especially made for antique typewriters like my Underwood. It’s easy to spool onto the metal spools, and the ink is very vibrant. The plastic is pretty strong, from my experience of removing the ribbon off the plastic spool it comes on, and so is the ribbon. I removed a star, however, because as the ribbon is unspooled, and the ribbon closer to the center of the spool is used, the colors are more muddled.

I recently purchased a 1939 Underwood Master from Craigslist and did a complete restoration on it. This was the last piece of the puzzle that I needed and the cost was lower than I expected. I still use typewriters in everyday life to type up letters, resumes etc as the ink is far cheaper than printer ink. You may have to fiddle a bit to get this to work on your vintage machine and in the case of most older Underwoods you need to reverse the wind on the spools but after that you are good to go. Wish someone still sold the old Black/Blue ribbon combination as it would get more use than the red.

The ribbon easily meets my needs. However, the spool that it came on was not as robust as the original spool that I had on the typewriter. So, I moved the ribbon over to the old spool, where it now works just fine. I'm pleased with the product, and glad I can even get a ribbon today for this old typewriter. It's a Royal from the 1930s or so. It has beveled glass windows in the side to see the inside, and even has a decal with the phone number of the original Cross Typewriter service company on Genesee Street in Saginaw, Michigan. It's a 4 digit number.

Bought this as a replacement for what I am assuming was the original tape for a 1911 Underwood. This thing was a mess, but I got it for a great price and restored it! It is beautiful now, and works like an Underwood should! The installation is kind of tricky, but after a bit of tinkering with it, it got right to work. The functionality of the red/black ink switch works perfectly too, which surprised me! I was frustrated with trying to get things to work properly again, so I am willing to help anyone else out with the same struggle!

I got my first manual typewriter recently and really needed new ribbon, so I ordered this stuff, at first I was concerned because the spool that it was on was just a teensy bit too big for my Smith Corona Super G, but I realized that I just needed to spin the ribbon on to the old spools, as they came with a clip. I had enough left over more later! And the ink is definitely fresh!

Used this to fix up my Grandmother's old typewriter. Ink worked well and fit the model I bought it for. Installation was a bit tricky for my Grandma and Aunt so I had to help. I recommend looking at how the previous ribbon fits in before replacing to make sure the ribbon threads through all the right parts correctly. I plan to buy this product again.

Was happy to find a ribbon for the older typewriter my gkid fell in love with at the antique store.This ribbon works well, a bit tricky to put in but....She went through the ribbon rather quickly - 1 day! so she loves the item, but the ribbon must be much shorter than the original. It was VERY inexpensive so could buy 2 or 3 of them I guess. I;m sure changing it will get easier.

Exactly what I was looking for when I purchased a vintage typewriter to refurbish and sell. Some buyers like to use the old gems and some just put on display. But either way I provide new ribbon in case they’d like to put it to use. This was a no hassle purchase that fit as indicated for a good price! Will purchase from this seller again!
