Bass cannons!
These babies have some serious bass authority! In a nutshell I think these will need some EQ to sound their best. The soft dome tweeters sound great, but the mids are a little thin IMO. I prefer a warm speaker, and compared to my Elac DB6.2's these are a little brighter. They are subdued however, and their sensitivity should be indicative of this. The 6.5" woofer has a great tonality, authorities bass into the lpw 40's before the roll-off begins to be apparent. Again, a little EQ will do wonders to give the low end a deserved bump but not required. I only did so for additional bass fill at lower volumes, but they will play decently loud before breaking up. The highs become scratchy in the lower treble region, which I think is the reason for the thin mid range. I would work in an EQ curve to level this off if I planned to listen at higher volumes.I have these staged on my desktop in nearfield, and I will vouch these babies need some breathing room. Back these up against the wall and you'll get lots of bass reinforcement, but it has this weird sub 40hz noise that I originally thought was chuffing at the port but apparently is just a reflected frequency range off my wall. I added another 4" and the noise goes away and the bass clears up.Power... I think if you really want to enjoy these, you'll want to throw some power at them. I have a Fosi Audio DA2120C with the supplied PSU - it's adequate for my nearfield configuration. But I threw these on my Emotiva amp, and they really come alive. Bass you thought was great before? These large bookshelves rattle my blinds, the dishes in the kitchen and the pictures on the walls. I threw on some Deadmau5 and needed to drop some ~170hz bass to keep them from bottoming out. At 250WRMS, that EQ curve will be required. Thr mids that were thin, aren't so thin. Just needed some oomph.I would look at some smaller bookshelves if you're not looking to run these on a higher powered amp. These are a lower sensitivity 4 ohm bookshelf - they will want good clean power, breathing room & EQ. With the right placement, you could use these with good power and EQ, and leave out a subwoofer. They'll never go super deep, but they sound great at moderate volume.Combine these with an RSL Speedwoofer and you'll be mighty happy.I also own the Monolith T6 Towers, and they too responded similarly. I had to throw lots of EQ and power at them to really wake them up, but once I had that dialed they sounded great. I purchased the B6's to use as the surround channels in my home theater, but they are huge and I'll likely get some Monolith satellites instead. You would be better using these as fronts or as a 2.0/2.1 system IMHO.If these were a proper 3-way (or 2.5-way) they would really excel in their weight class. The mids need some work to really shine. The current sale price places these under $100.00/ea, and at this price point they can't be beat. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these, and I would certainly purchase again.Do yourself a favor and watch some reviews on YouTube by CheapAudioMan and JoeNTell - I concur with their opinions. Definitely a great buy even at full MSRP.

very pleased...absolutely love these speakers
These speakers are "bass cannons" as referred to by CheapAudioMan. While they do have their own sound signature I find that I enjoy listening to these as much as all my other bookshelfs. (Polk, Jamo, Klipsch, KEF, B&W,NHT, Cerwin Vega, Etc.) They compare favorably to my KEF Q300's and Klipsch RP 160m's.Very good, punchy bass that is adequate for my listening without a Sub. I like not having to deal with the clutter of a subwoofer just to get a full sound experience. Imaging and soundstage are great, it has a good quality build and is better looking than most "boring black" bookshelf speakers...especially without the grills. I highly recommend that you check these out if you can. I would definitely buy these again and may just do that !

BIG sound. Love these.
I was turned onto these speakers by 'joe n tell'. Everything in his review is spot-on. The sound is BIG - they feel more like tower speakers than they do bookshelfs. I have these paired to a vintage Marantz 2238 receiver and Fluance RT-82 turntable. All EQ at "noon" and the sound is excellent to my ears. I've been through many speakers that "measure better" but in real-world use just sounded shallow, boxy or thin to me. These might not be 'flat' persay but the enjoyment factor I get from them is excellent. If a speaker is going to have a 'flaw' - the 'flaw' that this one has is the best one to have - a bit TOO much bottom-end. In the world of "Pyramid of Sound" - I'll take a bit more low-end vs not enough every day of the week.

Monoprice lies about their Warranty
I purchased this exact model a few months ago. The tweeters failed after running a simply tone sweep for my AVR setup. Contact support, they are only offering store credit, and NOT THE 3year FULL REPLACEMENT THEY PROMISE ON THEIR WEBSITE. Monorpice refuses to honor their own warranty, you should probably stay away from them.

Wasn't my cup of tea
Sound was bright and forward out of the box. I honestly didn't give them enough time before I sent them back. The vinyl wrap on one speaker was already peeling off. And both speakers had dimples in the rubber surrounds on the woofers meaning they were stretch too much in one direction while they were being glued. One thing they did have going for them was soundstage. Huge. But with all the negatives pilling up right out of the box, they went right back into it. Maybe next time Monoprice.

Very nice for price, need subwoofer
Very nice for the price, just make sure to get speaker stands to keep them at the height of your ears while listening (there's clamps for sit to stand desks), and you'll definitely want a subwoofer because they do pretty much nothing below about 55Hz.I wish the highs were a little more clear, but at $300 a pair I can't really complain, and it could just be my room because acoustics are horrible.
