Great weapons
The Nerf battle weapons are some of the best foam weaposn ever made. I have the full set and think they are all great. I teach martial arts and we use these for special events and games. The kids love them and make for some epic battles. The sword with the shield is a little stumpy and more like a knife. But all the other weapons are fantastic.

Great shield, OK sword
My 8 year old son loves the shield. It is a good size, light weight and feels very sturdy. I wish I could have purchased just the shield. The "sword" is very short - more like a dagger especially when compared to other nerf swords. I would have given it 5 stars if the sword were longer. If you love the nerf battle gear as much as our household, this is a must for your arsenal.

Lots of fun
These are very durable--practically indestructible, and a lot of fun. The only drawback is that I didn't realize from the picture that the sword is not the length as other Nerf swords. I should've realized it because they look the same length in the picture. Anyway, not really a problem, but I figured I'd mention it.

should have only cost $25.
Much to much over priced

Best for small kids
I bought this for my 5 year old son's birthday. The box it comes in is huge and packaged very well. The sword is much smaller then the other shadow lines, but I honestly thing he likes it better. The sword looks very durable and has a very comfortable handle. He wailed on me with it and it doesn't sting nearly as bad as the shadow or marauder. The shield could stand to be about 20% larger then it is. If you are buying this for a teen I think they would be very disappointed with it's dimensions. What the pictures on amazon fail to show you is that the back part of the shield has a good amount of plastic on it. I'm not sure if this is necessary to keep it's shape or provide some reinforcement, but I wonder about the durability of it's parts. There is only one "handle" and it's a velcro strap attached to the middle plastic circle part of the shield. It looked okay on my son, but when I put it on I found it very difficult to control and keep the shield from sliding up and down my arm. It would have been nice for them to include a handle for a person to grab on the back...like a real shield. As it stands now, the shield hangs on ones forearm, but only as tight as the velcro holds....safety first I guess. I'm not sure if they kept a handle or sleeve off of this for packaging issues or to prevent people getting the shield stuck on their arm. If they did put a handle on the shield near the side it stands to reason that a left handed user would be forced to use it on their dominant arm. It sits as good as any cheap plastic shield you might find at the store, I guess I was just hoping for more. I don't think it's value is worth $25.

For my nephew
Got this for my nephew and he loves it! He is 7, the dagger is a little small but he still likes it. The shield was the real winner for him. In my opinion it could be made better, more sturdy. If you look at the picture, the dark areas are all hard plastic, the other areas are easily moved foam. He really liked it though and that is what is important.

Disappointingly flimsy
As the other reviewers have stated, this item is a lot smaller than the pictures and description would indicate. The "sword" is in reality a dagger, and if you know that going into the purchase, it's fine for what it is.My real problem lies with the shield. For Nerf to come out with exceedingly high quality N-Force products (the Warlock, Marauder, and Battlemaster specifically) the shield is pitifully thin. I might have liked it better if it were twice as thick as it is. Also, there really should've been a second strap for stability.I bought 2 of these so my son and I could play around. I kept one for novelty's sake for him, but returned the second because I surely won't be using it anytime soon. Looks like I'll be dual-wielding in the future.

Perfect alternative to sticks
I was looking for a sword and shield combo for my kids to play with due to their constant desire to sword fight with sticks from the back yard. Although it states on the toy that it is not meant for hitting people with I find that it does far less damage than a stick to the eye. The sword is typical nerf foam material, not to long. The shield has a Velcro adjusted arm attachment. Both my kids, 2 and 4, have had a blast fighting with it, and I have the added bonus of peace of mind that they won't end up with irreparable damage.
