On the first, a Slik mini about 30 years old with no workable head, this head was a bit heavy for the tripod; it would work, but the balance was questionable. On the second, an older Velbon mini this head fit like it was meant for the job and is now permanently installed. Works great, I use this tripod with my Nikon 1 compact cameras and it is stable and the ball head allows for easy adjustment. I'm happy. I would recommend this head for consideration for anyone doing what I described. Every refurbish or update project is different. This ball head is smooth, locks tight, and has an rotating, degree marked base.
