This thing dazzled me as soon as i opened the box. and then died... So yes would expect it to need a charge but I can't expect much when they make the port so ridiculously small and magnetic. I guess to prevent you from incorrectly lining up the wrong polarity That's dumb because it has a charge indicator telling you if the charge is active or not. On that rare occasion when you hit the target right, you will see RED meaning it's in the process of charging and then after about 30 seconds it changes to GREEN. Like magic! You are done. So where do you turn it on? There's another port/button. The ON/OFF button and it works randomly. So you push it and it does nothing. Surprise the charge does NOT hold much like the charger connectors dont hold in place. Very bad design! So I sent it back. Got a new one but had all the same issues but the battery held a charge. Not for more than a day. My smaller less complicated ones last 3 days. Less if you have it FLASH OR SPARK OR STROBE or dazzle you with mild variations of moderately different colours that your human eyes can not detect unless you look directly into the center. I don't suggest purchasing this one. It will underwhelm you and keep it away from submerging in water. no matter what they tell you this thing does.
