Review: Cylewet Reed Switches - The ten reed switches were packaged in a zip-lock type bag which was in a small plastic box. Good protection for mailing since these switches are tiny and fragile. I tested all 10 pieces upon arrival and they all had contact resistances less than 1 ohm when closed with a small magnet. As shown in the attached photos, I used one switch to replace a reed switch, in an Acurite rain gauge, that failed to close when activated by a magnet . Precautions were taken when bending the leads to fit in the printed circuit board. The excess leads were trimmed only after the switch had been soldered in place. Since the vendor does not know this simple term best to stay away from this switch. **Q: How close do you have to be to set it off?** A: While using a rather strong NeodymiumBoron magnet, I was somewhat disappointed to find I had to be within an inch or 2.5 cm to get it to close. **Q: what are the dimensions of the glass tube? Diameter, approx length?** A: I'm pretty sure this is what I have; glass part is .5 inches. I didn't use them; I found if you put pressure on the tails, they crack. **Q: Is this latching, or only magnet presence?** A: These are NOT latching... only close in presence of magnetic field...and does not require much to close. I purchased these for a little 3d printed 22re engine. The switches work great near a magnetic field, but be sure to verify they do work. Please be careful, the glass body looks good but break very easily. I broke several while trying to get them into my 3d print and at one point I had a piece of glass go into my eye.
