I don't normally write reviews; a person normally receives about what they expected based on price, materials, construction, etc. I've used several powered gravel cleaners/water changers. All worked, to some extent or another, and all were a pain in the a$$ to use. This pump is powerful, super easy to use, it really moves the water, and does a great job cleaning the gravel once you learn to turn the pump power down a little. The battery charges fast and lasts forever (I did a 25% water change and cleaned gravel in a 55 gallon and 20 gallon tank this morning, and the battery indicator didn't even drop one light). The variable speed dial is awesome - all the others I've used were all or nothing and the switch wasn't even close to the handle. When transferring water back into my tanks (unless I'm doing a 100% drain and set up) I pre-treat water in 5 gallon buckets. Before the pumps would always leave a couple of inches of water in the bottom of the buckets and you'd have to pour it into tank. THIS pump sucks the water all the way down until there's almost nothing at all left in the bucket.If (like me) you don't have the gravel screen in and accidently suck up some gravel into the motor, no worries. the ends of the actual pump quickly screw off and on; I screwed off the ends with a twist, rinsed it out, spun the ends back on and was back at it in maybe 90 seconds.The case it comes in works great as a storage case. it's thick hard cardboard with a full open lid. inside is a water-proof foam cut out to hold the individual parts. take out the pieces you need, do what you needed to do, put the pieces back in their spots in the cut-out foam, close the lid and put it away. No more loosing pieces or rummaging in a spare box of extra junk for something.If you need a gravel cleaner or are looking for an easier way to do water changes - I don't think you can find anything better than this perhaps at even twice it's price.You won't be disappointed.

its a nice idia product. but its like a toy. battery stop working after slight use.

I think the product overall is nice and easy. I just realize the suction duct where the water passes through is bit too narrow. So when I cleaned up my algae stuff from the tank, the algae gets stuck leading to a slower water flow. Also, it makes things a bit difficult to clean. But otherwise it is working fine and I’ll keep it for an easier water change.

it works well if you clean it every five minutes i had them send me a new one because i had it on for a few minutes it quit the new one did the same i cleaned them both they work but tried cleaning my aquarium works well if i disassemble and clean often otherwise entire pump quits and lights start flashing if you have a small aquarium 150 gallon or less it probably would be all you need

I purchased this product to assist with substrate clean up. I have a 75 gallon heavily planted aquarium and it's very difficult to reach some of the rotting food that gets stuck between the wood. There's enough suction that I can get pretty good results from hitting the substrate and wood. There's small foam filter material in the plastic tubing to protect the motor of the unit. I'm not sure how well this unit would work on sand as the filter pad has moderately large pores.So far, the unit works fine for my use.

Works great, didn't take long to put together and has great suction power! Haven’t had any leaks when using yet and it’s very easy to clean. Highly recommend this for anyone looking to clean their substrate. Great auction power from this unit. Makes the whole water change/maintenance process stress-free and enjoyable.

I bought this hoping to make my tank cleaning experience easier. Nope. The suction in this thing (even on the highest setting) is incredibly weak. In fact, I found that an identical hose used only as a siphon moved more water than this thing.Also, this is made of extremely cheap materials and it shows. I doubt this would have lasted more than a few uses had I not returned it. A more appropriate price for this would be $9.99.

I'm so upset. After 2 other automatic siphoners broke on me, I WAS SO EXCITED to get this one. Figured, hey. For the extra money, it may be better. Wrong. It worked for 5 min and I assume a few specks of AQUARIUM SAND got sucked up and that was the end of the whole freaking thing! That's it. Substrate cleaning? LOL. Poop cleaning? Lmao. Water changing? Maybe. Too bad I didn't have it long enough to find out.Please don't buy it. If you suck something up that it doesn't like, the whole motor will fry and there's no way to fix it. The instructions will literally tell you to just replace it.
