Amazon Basics 24-Sheet Cross-Cut Paper, CD and Credit Card Home Office Shredder with Pullout Basket

I have the 24-page one.So far, a really good shredder, I expected worst to be honest but it has an annoying whine after it is done shredding; Sounds better when shredding than not. Though I imagine you can expect this for a 24-page shredder. They say to oil it after every use, I would say to oil it every time you empty the bucket. The unit itself is massive.Testing: It actually goes through 24 pages of different grades of papers, even stacks of thick government papers. It struggles at maximum but if you understand electric motors, you'll know it can do a few more pages. It starts to struggle at 12 but it's a light struggle; at 24 pages, it sounds upset. I wouldn't want to feed it 24 pages at a time for 25 minutes.Pros:-Easy to use - Plug and Destroy-Cheap - Good price overall for a 24 page shredder-It will hand 24 pages of heavy grade paper-Will handle any single core boxes-You can get a 3 year protection plan (Highly Recommended with this unit)-Reverse works like a charm-Massive bin-Great packing-Chews through single corrugated cardboards like a champ-Makes amazing kindling-Won't even notice a staple in a 16 page documentCons:-Heavy (~50lbs)-Excessive Handling Time (7 business days)-Loud when free spinning (Can be annoying)-Tight feeding slip - Finger won't accidentally slip in... neither will anything else-Feels Cheap, like the motor won't last but I been grossly wrong about electric motors before-May have difficulty with some paper types - Make sure paper is very dryIn all and all, price for value, in the 24-page department, it doesn't get any better than this. I may even get another one for the garage because it is just so powerful. I would recommend it to anyone who isn't worried about noises and needs to shred a lot of papers. Best suited for a cool garage or basement office.Will buy again if needed and I do recommended it... so far, so good!

My wife is a writer and we need to shred a lot of paper. I had to replace my old large shredder after many years of reliable service. The crossshred results in a much denser bag than the old strip shredder. The unit works very well. You have to be careful feeding the paper. The sheets have to be aligned in a tidy pile but this seems to be common in newer units. About once a month I put some oil on a sheet and feed it through to oil the blades.The unit is heavy. The post office requested I come and pick it up. They had it on a trolly to carry to my car.I don't know what paper they are using to say it will do 24 sheets at once. Thin tissue paper? The norm with real printer paper is probably more like 10 but it is performing well. I am pleased with the purchase.

The Pros: This unit is quite quiet compared to my previous shredder. My previous shredder could shred 16 pages at a time. This one does 24. The shredded pieces are quite small at 4mm by 25mm. The unit is capable of shredding a full load of 24 pages, but it labours a bit under full load. The slot that accepts paper to shred is sized to only allow the unit's full load to be inserted, so it is difficult to overload it.The Cons: The shredder took 8 days to arrive, using Prime Express Shipping. Also, the integrated bin which holds the shredded material should be more robustly built. I can see this bin cracking quite easily under heavy use.

I bought a comparable priced fellowes shredder last year. (Scared to but amazons store brand), but this should have been my FIRST purchase. I’ve used a lot of different shredders over the years- and this was certainly the best value (not the highest capacity- but those ones cost thousands...)My fellowes shredder:-overheats and must shut down after 1 hour (this amazon basics one has NEVER shut down, nor overheated- the cooling fan is much more powerful)-takes 4 passes to shred my average folder (this one does an entire folder- but I do have to fold the tab back- as the mouth is only 9” wide)The bin is much larger in this shredder, but it does “overfill” so it’s a bit harder to open, and it’s doesnt close well. But I happily overlook these shortcomings - because it has been so much more efficient. I have done 20 boxes of shredding, and it has outshone the fellowes in every way!
