Setscrews are fine, but lack pull strength; compression connections are never as strong as they look like they're going to be; and solder, on large high-mass connectors, is slow going and tends to cause a lot of insulation meltback. Our solution: ultrasonic welding. Our Sonobond Ultrasonic Welder (made in West Chester, PA) welds the copper wire to the brass banana plug body without the excessive heat associated with conventional welding, fusing copper to brass in a tight, strong, low-resistance, reliable connection.Quality Parts for Quality ConnectionWe use our own 10 AWG cable stock, manufactured for us in Monticello, KY by Belden Wire & Cable -- this cable has a 65-strand construction for high flexibility, and is encased in a white PVC jacket. Kurt BJC **Q: Are these Canare 4s11?** A: No. The canare 4s11 have 4 connectors wrapped in one jacket and are used for bi-wiring. These are terminated cables used for basic bi pol connections (1 red/1 black). Hope this helps. **Q: Will these banana plug cables work with vintage stereo receivers? Will they work if I cut the plugs off and use the bare wire for connection?** A: What sort of terminals do you have on your receiver? If you have screw-down type terminals in a terminal strip, we do offer connector configurations for those but we don't stock those at Amazon. The bare wire termination will tend to be sloppy on most terminal strips simply because the 10 AWG wire is pretty thick and it's hard to get all of it under the terminal screw unless you have very big terminals. If you have clip-type terminals on the receiver, one of our connector alternatives -- though also not available on Amazon -- is a pin-type termination for insertion into those. Or, bare wire works just fine, but not all terminals will accommodate a wire this large. **Q: Are these cable oxygen free cable?** A: Like most plastic-wrapped speaker cables at this price point - these cables can be almost completely oxygen free if you leave them out in Space for a while.
