Works nicely - the internal adjustment is key as part of the setup
I used this switch on an accent lap that I use as a nightlight. I needed the lamp to be dimmable and this provided a non-bulky solution attached to the lamp itself vs an outlet dimmer. The installation was straight forward following the cable's coding with the wider plug prong to identify the neutral cable vs the live cable. Even that the dimmer is a bigger that what I'd like it ideally to be, it's ok. Once I finished installing it, when setting it in the lowest possible setting the light was dim but with time became brighter, and was not possible to get it at a lower level, but by opening the plug again and adjusting the internal potentiometer I was able to set it to a wider range, from no brightness at all to full brightness, so it works perfectly for the use I intended it for. Be very cautious when adjusting the internal potentiometer, since you'll have the live wires exposed, so wear rubber gloves and use an isolated screwdriver.

Good dimmer, easy install
Purchased this to retrofit a lava lamp switch to add dimming. Pros - easy install with no need to weld and no electrical skills, dimmer works well, price is good. Cons - no strain relief on the cord, so I added large globs of hot glue around the cord where it exits the housing to make it more secure. Most lamps are stranded wire and it can be hard to get a good clamp on it, so be sure to secure it well. The lack of strain relief was the only gripe. If yours isn’t allowing you to get maximum brightness, check the small white dial next to the blue main dial. You can adjust it with a flathead screwdriver to turn it all the way up when the main dial is also turned all the way up. Only do this while unplugged or you risk shock.

Recommend using with dimmable LED bulbs / Competitive pricing is notable.
UPDATE : 2/17/23 - I received new 100 watt equivalent LED bulbs direct from a Chinese factory and they work much better with this dimmer. Although it still does not dim 100% (0-100), it performs sufficiently. I think most dimmer's + LED's have this issue. Still, the difficulty in installing is a bit of a hassle. Comparative pricing is very good. I have raised the rating accordingly.ORIGINAL REVIEW :Tested on a custom table lamp built using 2 verified LED bulbs rated at 60 watt output each, drawing about 15 watts, total. Dimmer effective range is only around 20 percent, at best, at the maximum brightness end. At nearly all other lower levels , bulb light appear consistently dim regardless of dimmer range, until off is reached. On the surface, price seems great but they perform on par with on/off in-line switches which costs 5 times less and take a fraction of the time to install.I've been using and testing both wired and wireless dimmers for years for my lighting business. With the proliferation of LED's, most of my investments are in dimmable LED bulbs. To date, the only reliable devices have been Lutron wired dimmers (provides consistent full-ranging dimming) and themySelectSmart GE Dimmable Wireless Control Switch. Watch out for device physical fit compatibility in relation to lamp cord thickness (SPT-1 vs SPT-2).

Wife likes it.
My wife likes to restore chandeliers. The kind with a chain that hangs down. She wanted this one to dim and I had her buy dimmable LED candelabra bulbs. This was easy to install and works fine. The wheel is off, turn it on and the more you turn the brighter it gets. However, the wiring was rather thick and the back did not want to stay snapped in place. I placed 2 plastic black wire ties around the control and through the chain. It keeps the control where it needs to be and she doesn't even notice the wire ties. This is not a fault of the device, as I said, the wire is rather thick. My wife likes it. What more can I say?

Cheap garbage - safety concerns
After realizing that Home Depot no longer stocks these replacement inline lamp dimmers, and at their suggestion, I found these on Amazon and they seemed like the reviews were positive. Mine is not & Im concerned that these might be a fire hazard. After receiving the dimmer, as someone who’s installed quite a few of them, I was surprised that the parts didn’t line up, the materials were too soft to take the screws and one of the cheap screws broke off in the casing. With all that, once the dimmer was connected, the lamp turned on and worked for the first 3 times but immediately started to flicker and then would not go to full brightness. This is potentially dangerous and I attempted to contact Amazon immediately, only to find that support online isn’t available, nor is the agent chat.At this point, I can’t seem to get a refund or even a return and will search for a better quality inline dimmer as I live these very good quality lamps. Stay away from these switches.

Stable with no flicker
Easy to install and the narrow, thin, inline shape is unobtrusive. I'm using them on floor lamps with decorative LED bulbs and they're working great; no flicker and they hold their setting.

The installation screws are as weak as plastic, they all broke off inside.
The dimmer works great, the tiny screws that are included to close the clam shell are as weak as plastic, they all snapped inside while trying to screw them in & now am unable to screw it together, i had no choice but to use electrical tape to keep them closed.

Perfect!
These are so great! I have a log home, which means no space between floors to install a box for hardwired fixtures. I was desperate to add more lights, but had a few spots that were more difficult to figure out! Once the safety/wiring changes were determined, I converted a hardwired fixture into a swag but needed a switch to turn it off n on, then saw these with ability to dim which I really needed too. This switch is easy to install, even came w/a couple extra screws, TY... which surprisingly I didn't really need, HA! Thanks Amazon for showing me this existed while I was shopping for other stuff! It was harder than it seems reading this, but onto the next fixture or two.. I couldn't be more happy with them!!!
