How big are these actually ?

They are huge, especially for small people. But my 85-year-old mom is small and she loves it! She is always cold and has told me repeatedly this is the best gift she ever received. I hope this helps.

My son is a big man about 300lbs will it fit him?

No, I would say it wouldn't. It's a one size fits most. I am 5'4 145 and it's very big, but not enormous on me. I saw a review from a 6'4" 280 guy, and he couldn't even get it on. Thay do sell theses in sizes. The 1st one in the family was my daughter, about the same size as me. She bought a woman's full length 2XL and it is huge, but not ginormous in her. I would look for ones that come in sizes and get him 1 size up from his normal size.
