It is water proof. It is a medium weight tarp. Not quite a truckers tarp, but better than a lot of the "Blue" tarps.

Q: how far apart are the groments

I have it put away for the winter. I would estimate approx 2 to 2.5 feet apart. There are plenty to tie the tarp into place on a carport I made that is from 6 feet to 10 feet high where winds can get below the tarp which is the roof. It held perfectly for this application.
