This is a replacement for my 25 year old Davis weather vantage station, you may pay more for a Davis station but in the long run your way money ahead !Quality durable and reliable with normal mantance can't be beat .

I have one a Davis weather station for 6 years. The only reason I had to replace the anemometer was due to a direct lightning strike. Burned up the electrical parts in the old one and fried the ISS transmitter. Replacement anemometer is the same great quality. I like that Davis has designed this version of anemometer with a replaceable bearing cartridge. So instead of having to replace the entire anemometer if the bearing goes bad, you just switch the cartridge out and you are back in business for around 20 bucks. If you want great quality weather data, Davis is a sound choice.

Noticed this winter that our anemometer was struggling to provide wind speeds so I ordered a replacement once the weather improved. This is our third anemometer in 17 years of operation. First lasted 10 years. Second lasted 7 years. Upon inspection, I probably didn't need to order this one. The old one was kinda gummed up and I think I could have cleaned it with alcohol and got it working again. However, changing out is an ordeal as the pole is 20-something feet high so if I'm going through the hassle, I might as well replace it. I think Davis does a great job for the length of time I've owned the product. I've replaced the rain gauge and the solar cover as well.

I didn't hook our anemometer/vane to any electronic device, because I don't care how manymiles per hour it is blowing--a pocket anemometer can do that. From our dining room I can seewhich way the wind is blowing, and the spinning cups tell me if it is blowing "a lot" or "just a tinybit". It is a beautifully constructed device that looks stunning on our deck, was very easy to assembleand a pleasure to peruse every time I walk past.

The media could not be loaded. Here is the Davis Anemometer spinning and reporting wind speed like crazy. Its hooked to a Particle Photon micro controller. My plan is to use it for my next IoT project which is a sprinkler system, and I will use the wind speed reported by this device no to water if the wind speed, let's say, is 10 MPH or more.UPDATE: The morning after the snow, the Davis Anemometer still spinning and reporting wind speed, and direction.

This is the third anemometer on the weather station which is 6 years old now. Either the direction fails, but most likely the wind speed fails either with no reading or inaccurate readings due to a bad bearing. For the price one would think it would last longer!

I bought this wireless Davis Weather Station Vantage Pro in 2004. It has worked reliably since then through hail storms and high winds. This year, the Wind Anemometer started reading zero so I ordered this replacement. I expect it to work for another 17 years. This weather station feeds data to my HomeSeer.com software which controls the automatic Internal and External window shades for optimum Passive House - home energy efficiency which keeps the hot and cold days under complete control inside.
