A fantastic pen in its own right
I purchased the matte black clipless Moon Man/Majohn A1 at the same time as a Decimo (the pilot VP’s slimmer, lighter, younger sibling) and prefer the A1. **see photo for both pens and essentially a handwritten version of this review** While the A1 may technically be a “knock-off” of the VP, it’s gotten a reputation for being a very good fountain pen in its own right. The biggest difference between this and the others is the nib — choosing the “best” is just personal preference. The A1’s nib offers a touch of pleasant pencil-like feedback, and paired with the feed is an extraordinarily consistent writer with no skipping or flow issues. It’s almost like writing with a brand new extra-fine hard felt-tip?? It is a “nail,” so there’s zero flex to it. The Decimo & VP, on the other hand, have 18kt gold nibs, which are very very soft and glassy-smooth on paper. The Decimo’s nib was so soft that I could see the tines separating while I was writing, which caused some inconsistent flow and isn’t ideal in general, and there was no line variation unless I used more pressure than I was comfortable with. Remember: Gold nib ≠ flex nib, and not every steel nib is unyielding! The A1 does not feel “cheap” in any way — it’s extremely sturdy, weighty, and dependable. I usually prefer slimmer pens as I have small hands & an unconventional grasp, but the girth of this one doesn’t bother me (the grip section is roughly the same diameter as the barrel of a capped Metropolitan, for example). The clicker is very satisfying and convenient, too. The trap door closes all the way, keeping the nib from drying out. *Just make sure the nib is put in the barrel correctly to begin with, by lining up the little bump on the feed & slotting it into the corresponding notch in the barrel. As far as I know, this is the case with any capless FP. It’s a huge bonus that Moon Man/Majohn offers a version without a clip. The clip is polarizing for sure — for some, it may help align the nib correctly, and for others it may just get in the way, depending on how you grip your pen (I’m in the second group). I only wish they offered this option in more than just black! The entire inside (nib/feed/cartridge) is the same size & shape as the Decimo & VP, so you could put a Decimo’s nib in an A1, for example (I tried it, there were no issues), and the body is very close to a VP in terms of size, weight, and appearance. Overall, if you have some experience with more traditional fountain pens and are thinking about getting a clicky FP, I absolutely recommend getting this one first to see if capless is for you. New FP users will get a better sense of preferences by trying out some capped one first :)

Vanishing Point Dupe
This fountain pen, frequently compared to and considered a fantastic alternative to the Pilot Vanishing Point, has quickly risen to become my absolute go-to writing instrument. The nib quality is truly exceptional; it glides across the paper with a smoothness that rivals, and in some cases surpasses, that of more expensive gold nibs. I am particularly fond of the extra-fine nib, which allows for delicate and precise lines, and the pen's design is remarkably ergonomic and comfortable to hold, which has noticeably improved the quality and flow of my handwriting. I've found that this pen is completely free of any leakage issues, a huge plus in my book, and it offers a great variety of convenient options for refilling with my favorite inks. Just a quick note: this pen does not come with ink included in the package. at least the one i recieved.

Almost perfect!
As the owner of several Pilot Vanishing Point/Decimo fountain pens, I was very curious about this pen. So, for the price, I figured it was worth a shot. After reading reviews, it sounded pretty good! The pen arrived, and I opened it, and took a good look. The build quality of this pen is very good, especially considering the price. It's not quite up to Pilot's standards, but pretty darn good. I like the extra weight, I think it's slightly heavier than an actual VP. The finish on my orange one is excellent, looks fantastic! So, after inspection, I inked it up (Sailor Kiwaguro Black) and started writing, the nib is excellent on mine, makes a very nice, fairly thin line, the flow is good, really nice. In fact, I like it better than the very flexy 18K nib on the Vanishing Point, as I found it hard to be consistent with the line thickness and it was very sensitive to pressure/flex on the nib. This nib is NOT flexy at all, in fact, some would call it a "nail", but I like it that way better...to each his own. Everything seemed to click...until it started skipping and no-starting. At first, I thought this was the pen itself, the nib or feed, or ink, etc. But on closer inspection it has to do with (in my case) the nib angle to the paper...what some call the "sweet spot"...in other words, if your grip makes the nib end up at a certain angle that is not ideal for that nib, you might experience some skipping and/or hard starts. I think that in my case, the way I hold the pen with my fingers around the clip, may very well be the problem. If I force myself to keep the nib in the sweet spot, it writes VERY well. It's just that is not a comfortable way to write, FOR ME. Your mileage may vary! Overall, this pen is absolutely an amazing value, compared to roughly 3x the $$$ for an actual VP. I see that they do offer the pen without a clip...which would probably resolve my issue totally, but I need a clip for using it at work, and am not a huge fan of black pens, which is the only non-clip version. If you are comfortable with the clip where it is, you can't go wrong otherwise with this pen!

A good knockoff of Pilot's classic Vanishing Point
This is a very nice pen. At first, I was at odds about getting a knockoff as I love Pilot pens, and I do own one of the original VPs. I did some research and saw that Pilot's original patent (US3292593A) expired 40+ years ago in December 1983. The purpose of these patents is to offer the authors temporary exclusive rights and protections in exchange for teaching the world about their cool invention. So with that legal input, the price difference, and new body styles as motivation, I gave this a try and was quite pleased with the result. The first nib I received leaked around the edges, which caused ink to pool up behind the trap door. After communicating this with the retailer, showing photos detailing the issue, they sent me a new nib. The time from first contacting the seller to receiving the new nib was about three weeks. That new combination works great. The writing is smooth, even for an <EF> steel nib. My nib has great flow with Iroshizuku Shin-kai ink, and does not skip, even with very quick writing. I'm also a fan of the complete black matte coating and texture, as it reduces the tendency to slip around the grip. Mechanically, the clicking is as loud as the VP original, with just a hint more "grittiness" that sounds like it could be from the spring, and not really grinding metal. I gave this 4 stars for "Value for money", but I would like to explain. While it is a great savings to the Pilot original, it can be purchased from China distributors even cheaper for about 70% of the price listed on Amazon. However, you may not get the same customer service and shipping time as I received, so buyer, please be aware. Other things to consider: There is not much line variation, but I would not expect this with either this nib size or construction. I have read that some folks have problems with their nib flow or scratchiness/feedback. Perhaps that is a quality control issue for the contractor making these nibs for Majohn, and could potentially be improved? The nib doesn't do reverse writing well at all, but I am not one in need of an XXF line at this time. I do wish Majohn would explore other nib sizes/shapes. Overall, I am happy with my purchase, and I hope this review provides helpful details for your decision-making.

Leaks all over from unknown source.
Loved everything about this pen, opted for the no clip option, as it seemed more likely to get in the way. Just barely got around to getting some ink in it and testing it out recently (i picked up a few pens at the same time). The EF nib is of comparable line thickness to the Japanese F nibs, the pen was putting down quite a wet line. Then i noticed my fingers were wet. Somehow the pen was leaking through the bottom tapered fitting. Upon disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling the pen, the leak continued, with no indication of where it's originating from. So, sad to say, as much as I liked this pen, it's destined for the bin, as just as much ink ended up on me, as the paper, and I cannot rely on it not producing a similar result when kept in my pocket or pack. If the seller sees this and would like to exchange the pen to remedy the issue, I'll be sure to update the post in the event the replacement pen does not present the same issue. Otherwise, this is a highly disappointing "buyer beware" post.

A fantastic VP clone
Why did I buy a clone when I own the real thing? I think something about a "cheap" pen makes it less stressful to use. I don't know why I bought this, curiosity maybe? I had just tried the Jinhao clone and had a terrible experience and for some reason I wanted to try another. This one was a win. This is a fantastic pen. It has a very smooth nib with great flow. I inked this with Diamine Midnight Blue and it's just fantastic. The metal body is solid but not too heavy. The textured body makes it easy to grip. If you're a person who can't use the VP because of the clip location, this won't help you. It's an exact clone and that's a feature, not a bug. I can stick this in my homemade travelers notebook and not worry about dropping a $100+ pen. The steel nib is great, the cartridges hold a decent amount of ink, it's just a great pen. I'm very glad I took the chance on this clone!

Excellent capless fountain pen at a good price
There are many reviews of the Majohn A1 on You Tube. Mine is a smooth black finish with gold accents and a fine nib. A blank cartridge and cap are loaded in the pen, but a screw cartridge is provided as well, along with a small plunger for ink retrieval if you do not have a syringe and needle. It came in a small cardboard box in a plastic sleeve. The pen has a good feel in the hand. The fitment and finishing are superb without any manufacturing issues or defects. The knocker is smooth and precise with a nice click when the nib is extended into position. The clip is stiff but contoured enough not to interfere while in the hand. I like the clip as a guide to where the fountain pen nib will emerge and have not been bothered by the clip in any way. When the nib is not extended it hides behind a small door, like putting your tongue to the roof of your mouth. When slowly pushing the knocker, the nib emerges cleanly from behind the door which drops down during use. The nib offerings are fine and extra-fine. The pen writes with a clean line giving precision to the strokes. You can certainly cursively write with the pen with a smooth feel on the paper. The Majohn A1 is versatile for all uses. The nib is stiff without flex. I placed tiny dabs of silicone grease on the fittings to keep everything supple, but that is my foible as I prepare a pen for use, along with a polishing between the tines of the nib with a .0015 feeler gauge. I have had no leakage of ink, and no dry outs with regular use, but the writing is acceptably wet. I used Noodler’s Heart of Darkness in my trial. I would be happy to give or receive this pen. Would I recommend the pen, you bet.

Very nice pen!
Happy with this pen, works well with pilot cartridges. Got it fast and as advertised. The nib is very fine, and maybe a little bit scratchy but it writes perfectly. Very nice design too. Metal. Not heavy.

Damaged barely after 2 weeks
Wanted to open and clean the nib. And it’s damaged. Barely after 2 weeks. This is bad! The door mechanism seems to have broken and the nib cannot be pushed out anymore.
