Timbuk2 Jones Laptop Backpack

I bought this to carry on my daily train commutes and it does the job well for me. It seems to be holding up well after about three months of use. Lots of pockets and compartments. Room to carry my lunch and a place for my water bottle. My only complaint - which may sound minor - is that the two front pockets don't have two zippers like the main compartment. I use those pockets a lot and it would be great to be able to open them from the middle. Overall, I'm satisfied with the purchase.

It's a good backpack, but the zipper is prone to jamming, and now it has broken completely.

Timbuk2 is normally out of my price range, but at over 50% off it is a deal. I probably would have paid the same for a no-name backpack of dubious quality at a box store. The only way to get a better deal is to get super lucky at a thrift shop. I love the brown/orange combination (matches the photo). I looked at various Timbuk2 bags at REI. This model is definitely not as fancy as their more expensive bags and says "budget", but it has the features I was looking for and I actually prefer the simple compartment styling. I would call the size between medium and large. Holds a lot but not huge like something you would want to bring camping or backpacking. I really like the cinch straps at the bottom - they seem like they will come in handy. I like the stiff foam back and how the shoulder straps fit. My 1 liter Sigg water bottle fits great in the side pocket.I am dinging it one star because I think a bag this expensive (at full price it is not much less than the fancier phoenix bag) should offer some sort of waterproof feature, or at least water resistance. I am also not sure how well the brown tweed fabric will wear with heavy use. It feels like something I will need to keep away from my cats for fear of excessive snagging. The tweed fabric does have a coating on the inside, so maybe that will be enough for long term wear. The orange canvas and black nylon feels very sturdy.It meets my expectations and I think it is a good deal when bought on sale. I would not pay full price for it. If you want a Timbuk2 bag, check at REI for any bags on clearance first, before ordering online.

I am quite picky when it comes to backpacks. This one is AMAZING! I have used the same patagonia bag for 4 years, but the straps were about to break so it was finally time to get a new one. After much research this was what i went with, and I'm in love with it. The side water bottle pouch is not mesh, so its nice to be able to put things in without the chance of slipping out or everyone seeing them. The tablet pouch in the front has extra soft fabric so that it helps protect your tablet screen, which has been great for my kindle fire HD. The main pouch is gigantic. I can fit my Macbook Pro 13', two giant text books, a few thin binders, charging cables, planner, and my lunch, all with no problems. Overall a great buy.

Decent bag. Like that it's compact. It lacks padded protection on the bottom of the bag for your laptop. You have to be extremely careful to put the bag down gently to not damage your laptop. Also, limited protection for your laptop from items in the other compartments pressing down on the laptop when the bag is laid flat. Don't keep anything heavy in those compartments, like a portable hard drive. Overall it is nicely constructed, but not extremely functional.

I had ordered the Timbuk2 Jones bag which was supposed to be a birthday gift for my girlfriend, but when I got package it turns out the seller sent me the Timbuk2 Blackbird bag.I would have understood if it was a different color....but a completely different item I didn't expect that. I had specifically ordered the Jones bag because I knew it was a big bag and could be used as a multipurpose bag since my girl likes to go for hikes and carry her DSLR and everything instead of it just being a laptop bag which the Blackbird is. I lost major brownie points from my girl for this stupidity and now I'm stuck with a bag I don't want.And since I'm an international buyer returning the bag will cost me more than the actual value of the bag.Other buyers should beware that this seller will most probably change your order. And the worst part is I cannot contact the seller to ask them on how they managed to mess up my order.

Looks awesome, feels good on my shoulder and a great bag for travel. It holds my 15" Lenovo Thinkpad and offers plenty of room for the other things when I travel (full sized hair straightener and hair dryer, clear bag TSA approved bath items, tablet, charger, wallet, and even a hoodie. Lost of room without feeling really weighted down).
