A normally closed switch will have a symbol that looks like: horizontal line, dot horizontal line, dot horizontal line, all continuous. Think of it as as an overhead view of a door that is closed. A normally open switch will have the symbol horizontal line, dot, line at 45 degrees up, not connected to second dot, horizontal line. Like a door open. You can look these symbols up. After making sure that the circuit is discharged (LOOK IT UP OR IT MAY KILL YOU), remove the old switch carefully.
