I used this product on brushes that were hardened by water-based acrylic paint; brushes that I forgot and had water-based glue on them..This product has been so effective, that I am into my second bottle.

Is this brush cleaner for watercolors?

I think it would be overkill to use this for cleaning watercolor brushes. Probably best to clean watercolor brushes with soap and water. Fels-Naptha, an oil based laundry bar soap, works really well for cleaning watercolor or oil based paints. The Winsor and Newton brush cleaner is useful for cleaning brushes that have dried oil paint in the brushes. This and other solvent based brush cleaners are hard on the bristles and shorten their life. I clean my oil brushes with Fels-Naptha after I finish painting for the day.

does it remove gloss medium and varnish from a brush?

Yes. I find that I can use it to clean all my brushes no matter what medium I use.

Will this work to clean and restore ink brushes? I want to revitalize my Windsor series 7 sable brushes

It does remove acrylic paint and oil paints on brushes. Be aware the product removes all paint. If the brushes has a nice design or logo on it, with this product the paint will be remove. This product is oil based and removes oil based paints. I had brushes with a nice logo on the handle and by mistake the product got on that area and it erased the logo and paint on the handle, which was a blue handle with gold words. Basically where ever the product land, the paint will be removed. I've removed paint from dolls and stripped them completely. Now about ink I don't know but this is a strong product so it might. Buy a smaller bottle with less ounces and see.
