Funny, irreverent, kids love it
Great book to have fun at bedtime with, kids love it and also educational. Good way to have young kids understand about some common ailments and causes! I bought for my kids and their cousins.

Very Amusing Book About The Gumboyle Family
This is one of my favorite children's books. There are a few references to the human body and its functions, which are educational and particularly amusing to young children (particularly boys). My daughters are now 13, but we still quote "Dr. Dog" occasionally. There are so many more good books for school age children than there were in the seventies, and this is one that adults will enjoy reading, too. We own several other Babette Cole books, including Lady Lupin's Book of Etiquette, which teaches readers about manners without sounding preachy.

Fun read for your littles
This book has a funny story to it if you are an animal lover or even if you are not. It is about the love of a family for their dog that happens to be a doctor too! Its corny and fun to read!

my own children loved it. Not for everybody
Bought a copy for my young nephew...my own children loved it. Not for everybody: it might offend the more delicate amongst you because it deals with a few gross health issues in a humorous way but we consider it a Family Classic. We have most of Babette's books and love them all for the realistic take that they have on many modern situations and the remarkable artwork. Bravo, Doctor Dog!

Guaranteed To Make You Laugh
This is a book I keep in my humorous bathroom library. Bought it years ago and was glad to find it for a gift. It’s very funny to read and so are the pictures.

Not just for children
Babette Cole has got to have an unusual and fun sense of humor! Dr. Dog is an interesting story that gets quite realistic. He is called upon for a variety of "illnesses" that the family experiences and gives sage advice to solve the problems associated with the maladies. I would recommend reading this first before you share it with your children or students,(if you are a teacher). It definitely appeals to a certain age of child or child-like adult! I have given this as a gift to my OWN doctor who has three children. The author also has another book, entitled, Mommie Laid An Egg, (or where babies come from). This is a definite recommendation for expectant siblings to be read with or by their pregnant parent/s.

It's very cute and funny. NEVER scratch your bum and suck you thumb
This book is outstanding. I read it at a friends house and had to buy it for my triplet nephews (age 4). It was a huge hit with them, as well as their parents and many sets of grandparents. Everyone that comes to the house has to read Dr. Dog. Valuable lessons in personal hygiene to be learned here! It's very cute and funny. NEVER scratch your bum and suck you thumb!

Dreadful
I bought this for my 4 year old great grand-daughter based on reviews that it was, "hillarious for the whole family". I personally think it is disgusting and that it would give any young child nightmares about things crawling around in their hair and worms coming out of their bottom. I will be returning this book immediately; after reviewing it myself I placed it back in the envelope in which it arrived. I only gave it one star so that \I could write the review.
