The Night She Disappeared: A Novel

Gripping, Well Constructed, My Favorite Thriller in a Long Time!
I only recently discovered Lisa Jewell. As someone who loves all kinds of thrillers and true crime, it surprises me in retrospect that I didn't discover her until recently; the first book of hers that I read was "None Of This Is True", which I loved. Then, of course, I had to look up all her books. "Then She Was Gone" was next; loved it.THEN I ordered THIS book.Wow. WOW! It's SO well written, and so well constructed.I love that Jewell really takes the time to develop the characters and through her style of storytelling puts you inside their minds, with chapters jumping back and forth in time from before crime/crime/aftermath. It builds suspense because you know something terrible happened, and it involved and impacted lots of people, and you're on the edge of your seat waiting to see how it's all going to come together.I know a lot of people will write a review and say, "I read it in one night", or, "I couldn't put it down". I find that I have to read Jewell's books a few chapters at a time. I need a chance, just like the characters in the books, to sit and absorb what I've learned, and process what it all means. It makes the endings so satisfying because unlike a lot of writers Jewell doesn't rely on formulaic storytelling or hard-to-believe plot points; she makes sure to play all of the beats insofar as the thoughts and reactions of everyone involved in the story, which in turn ensures that the plot is character-driven. Much more satisfying. The suspense in this one is SO engrossing! The story is relatable in the sense we've all known toxic people who leave lots of irreparable damage in their wake, either directly or through the unfortunate souls in their orbit. This is one of my must-reads on my "thriller" bookshelf and I'll be giving it as a gift for Christmas to lots of people this year, along with "Ask for Andrea", the other hugely gripping novel I've read in recent months.

Another page-turner by Lisa Jewell!
Gripping. Beautiful. Intense. I didn’t know if I’d love this book as much as her others, but as always, the vibrant characters drew me in. I was literally holding my breath at the end! Crazy good book with tons of plot twists.

Twisty Whodunnit
Kim’s daughter, Tallulah, and her boyfriend Zach have disappeared after a pool party at the home of a friend. They had supposedly left in a taxi. But the cab company has no record of the fare, and Kim knows her daughter, a college student and a young, unmarried mother of an infant son, would never in a million years, leave her son willingly.A year later and Sophie has moved to campus to live with her boyfriend at his new teaching position. Sophie is an author of true crime books, and is immediately drawn into this missing person case.I gave this one four stars. The book has fast paced twists that held my interest. On the flip side, however, there are so many characters to keep up with, I found myself going back and forth often through the chapters trying to decipher the storylines. This one reminded me of Riley Sager books and had excellent review ratings.

Very detailed and great character development. Always guessing what could be going on. Unexpected twist. First book I’ve read of this author and I’m excited to read more!

one and done
Unfortunately the beginning was hard to follow, a lot of back and forth time frames. The characters didn’t really stick out to me, a very dragged out mystery. Not really a book people pick up twice.

This was a Great suspense novel. It was very hard to put down, like all of Lisa Jewell’s books. Highly recommend.

Good but…
Not as perfected as The Family Upstairs and its sequel, The Family Remains. If Lisa Jewell wanted to make a point in telling the world just how incompetent the small town English police investigation units are, she succeeded. But all and all, a good plot with tons of twists and turns. To those who read or want to begin reading Jewell’s work, read away. Just some expect perfection.

Page turning excitement
This is the first book of Lisa Jewell that I’ve read. I’ve heard a lot about her being a wonderful novelist, but never tried one before and this one has been exceptionally good. I ordered two more and intend to read as many as she writes. It’s exciting. She’s a wonderful writer and a real page Turner.

Slow burning, Riveting read!
The Night She Disappeared by Lisa JewellA fabulous Book from author, Lisa Jewell, This is a slow burning, riveting read.Talulah, a teen mother has gone missing after she went on a date with her possessive and controlling boyfriend Zach. Kim, Talulah's mother leaves no stone unturned in her search for her missing daughter. The case goes cold. Sophie, a bestselling mystery writer moves to the same area as Kim along with her boyfriend who is the head teacher at the local school. In her exploration of her surroundings she finds a sign asking her to dig at a specific location. Upon digging she finds a clue which helps kick start Talulah's case once again and the eventual search once again. What I loved about The Night She Disappeared is the fact that all the characters felt so real. The setting is beautiful yet chilling. The twists keep coming at literally a breakneck speed. The story is from multiple POV's Talulah's as well as her mother Kim's. Kims POV is about the present whereas her daughter's is from the past leading up to the day she disappeared. This definitely was a novel which I just couldn't put down at all. Filled with emotions, secrets, lies and a ton of mystery, this is one of the best books I've read so far this year.
