Herbs RED HOT Pickled Sausage (1 Gal. Jar) 39 Count Beef & Chicken No Pork ( From Jersey Candy Company)

After reading some of the other reviews I was a bit hesitant to buy these. My dad and I both loved Penrose hot sausages and it's been hard to find a replacement. I'm happy to report that Herb's are delicious and 95% similar to Penrose's. They have the same level of vinegary tang, and almost the same heat (not like Penrose's was all that "hot" to begin with). The texture is closer to a hot dog unfortunately, but they're still really good.The delivery was extremely quick (just two days). I was most concerned with the comments about packaging, especially about the possibility of spillage while being delivered. The seller must've taken the feedback to heart though, because it was delivered in not one, not two, but three nested boxes, with bubble-wrap firmly taped around the entire jar, including tightly around the lid. It was delivered safely with no spillage or breakage at all.$35 is a bit pricey unless you absolutely love these sausages (which we do!), but you're getting a giant jar of them. As I said in the title, if you're looking for a Penrose replacement these are as close as you're going to get. They're delicious and my only complaint is that I have to fit the big jar in my refrigerator, haha.

Very good quality and delicious

Last month I had a craving for pickled sausages, so I bought a jar of Big John's pickled sausages and I was super pleased with them. Definitely brought me back to my childhood when I used to get them from the ice cream truck.This month, I decided to try these out since they were quite a bit cheaper. And I'm going to tell you right now, these are NOT worth it. The quality of the Herb's pickled sausages is so incredibly subpar compared to Big John's that I will always justify spending the extra 10 bucks on the same size jar. Herb's pickled sausages come with no seal, and you can tell there is some oxidation of the fat because of the white creamy smears on the sides of the jar. Not to mention, these aren't even sausages. They're hotdogs. And they are spongy inside with no snap to the casings. It's really bad. Please trust me on this one and go for Big John's if you have a craving for pickled sausages, you won't regret it.

I received these the other day and they sat on the counter for a day or two before I opened them up. They came wrapped well but I was surprised that when I took off the lid there was no seal. I saw this in other reviews so I can’t say I was incredibly surprised. Normally I wouldn’t eat a product that had no seal but I went ahead and tried one.All that said, I will tell you these have great flavor and texture. The casings have a bit of a snap and the inside is not mushy as I saw someone mention in another review. I suppose it could change from one sausage to another but the ones I’ve eaten so far have been pretty darn good. So far I am pretty satisfied with these and if the rest are as good as the ones I’ve already eaten I am sure I’ll buy another jar. Great heat and vinegar balance too!

These sausages taste great, but they’re extremely vinegary. Most sausages are naturally pickled. These things are made with vinegar in the sausages. So they’re completely pickled through, causing an overpowering vinegar flavor. They hurt my stomach, I will not be buying again.
