First, kudos to the OrangePi website for making their software downloads readily available, and easy to understand what each download includes. SOME companies (looking at YOU, Creality) have god awful sites and impossible to understand descriptions (specifically referring to the firmware for the ender 3 v2).I bought the OrangePi in an effort to have a dedicated controller for the Ender. I'm brand new to 3d printing, and it blows my mind that they don't put a $2 wifi chip in these machines to at least allow sharing of files. The whole thing of transferring an SD card (MicroSd, at that) is ridiculous.Anyway, Octoprint solves all of that, and you get a few more features that overcome deficiencies in your firmware.The last time I used a CLI with any kind of frequency is back in the DOS era, and couldn't wait to leave that. GUIs became the next big thing for a reason. Yes, Linux brought back horrid memories, but I was able to install Octoprint and all of the do-dads in 4 or 5 hours.This kit is pretty cool, although I'm not sure where you're supposed to put the wifi antenna. For now I just have it sitting around. Seems like some sort of port on the case is warranted, but that will come later.I have no point of reference as to this device vs a Raspberry Pi, but for Octoprint, it runs just fine and was a relative breeze to set up.

I got this to set up a Tailscale VPN to connect to while I travel. I grabbed the Debian image off of the Orange Pi site, then followed the DietPi instructions to slim down the OS, and also to install Tailscale. The hardest part was figuring out how to set the keyboard to English (US) instead of English (UK)... (it was under an English "other" menu).Super happy with the size, performance, and cost.

Good value for an alternative kit to the excessively priced Raspberry Pi 3 kits currently.The included case only contains a heatsink for the CPU and no fan. As a result the board can run a bit hot (over 80 C) in a warm environment, especially during high CPU and I/O use. Due to the limited RAM storage concurrent multiple window usage is limited.I found the Epiphany Web browser to be a better alternative to Chromium for use with both my Armbian Jammy 22.08 and Debian Buster 2.2 Linux systems that I downloaded and burned to micro SD cards (make sure to use a A1 or A2 rated card for improved performance -- i.e -- SanDisk Ultra or better). Both these Linux distros run quite reliably on the Orange Pi 3 LTS.The benefit this board has that I like is that it actually powers off on shutdown.Happy with the purchase; just need to come up with a way of keeping the board cool when days are hot.Haven't utilized a Touch Screen monitor yet, but the system works well on a HDMI PC Monitor.

Had alot of problems with mainsail setup finally got sick of it and used rpi to run mainsail

I bought my Orange Pi 3 LTS from Shenzhen Xunlong Software CO. Limited, and it works amazing.When I first got it I thought it was broken because it showed no signs of life when you plug it in / press power button.YOU MUST HAVE THE microSD / TF CARD FLASHED PROPERLY BEFORE THE THING WILL TURN ON.Hopefully someone will see this and not make the same mistake I did. Thank you Shenzhen Xunlong Software CO. Limited!This board is not a powerhouse by any means, but in 2022 if you need a nice little compute board for running command line programs / dev work this works. I will use mine to demo some smart contract client software.

With the crazy prices that raspberry pies are going for, I decided to give this a try for my home automation server.Setting up the device is very quick and easy. Just follow the docs on their website, and you can have Debian up and running in no time.Temps seem manageable, even with just the passive cooling that comes with it--at least for light usage.While it was a bit hard to find docs for my specific use case (Home Assistant), I was eventually able to figure it out using some resources I found in forums.

Easy to assemble and program, it functions well for monitoring and controlling my solar power system. I did have an issue at about the 50 day point where it stopped powering up after turning it off, but the seller promptly replaced the unit at no cost.
