For years, I've swung between D'Addario EXL and Ernie Ball Slinky strings. They've done the job fine but quickly get dull - even with the best of care. Fortunately, I'm not the string snapper I used to be as a teen, so I usually only ever change strings when I can't stand the feel of the old strings anymore. I'd heard Beans from Milehouse Studios rave about these strings so I decided to give them a go for my Yamaha Pacifica. I was pretty amazed! The strings felt super sleek and coated, they bend nicely and, even a month or so later, haven't gone dull. Every time I pick up the guitar, I'm shocked by how fresh the strings feel. If you're someone who does massive bends or hits the whammy bar like it owes you money, you might not get the mileage out of these strings that the price demands; however, if you're just a standard player with a regular touch, these strings could actually save you money in the long-run.

I used to buy XL120's (009s), but I sweat a LOT and can destroy a set of normal strings in a single gig. These strings are over twice the price of the standard ones, however, thye can withstand my abuse, not just for a gig, but for a couple of months, without tarnishing or breaking. The superior strength really pays when playing an electro acoustic, I had a habit of regularly snapping the D string, that doesn't tend to happen with these. Even when swapping out strings on my gigging guitar, the strings are still in good enough condition to put on a secondary guitar. The coating means less strings noise, easier to play and remain cleaner for longer. Not cheap, but with the XS, you really do get what you pay for, as a gigging musician, I wouldn't use anything else now.
