LOADED with information!
I have been reading up on homesteading and off-grid lifestyle, and found this book to be one of the best out there when it comes to practical knowledge on how to setup a homestead on a limited budget. The author lives the lifestyle he teaches on in this book, and offers a lot of real world tips and advise that will really come in handy. One of the subjects that has been of big interest for me is setting up an off-grid power system, and this book contains a lot of useful information on how to setup a suitable solar panel outfit. What I learned just from this section of the book was worth the entire cost of the book for me.This is a MUST READ for anybody looking to go off-grid or better equip themselves for surviving on minimal finances.

Interesting story of sustainable living.
I found this to be a very interesting book on homesteading. They are totally off grid self sufficient homesteaders and this book details how they accomplished that.I am not a homesteader but like to try use sustainable practices when and where I can find them. This book has lot of interesting ideas. It is sized about like a thick magazine. I have read through this book about 3 times now. I like how it is really their story- not just a how to do this and that kind of book.

Homesteading How To Adjust
While this book is not an explicit instruction manual for living the homestead life, it should be required reading for anyone considering giving it a try. Mr. Gregerson gives a pragmatic view on the how and how not to way of living in the country and homesteading. It is a cautionary manual for people who go into this life unprepared but with high expectations. This book has many tidbits of advice from his personal experience on things that work and ways to avoid disaster. I especially appreciated his thoughts on burnout and how to avoid it. I look forward to reading more from this homesteading sage!

This was an enjoyable and easy read. The author provides many tips on how to reduce dependency on others. Many of the topics he covers are done so in a general manner with questions one would pose to their own situation. Other areas he does provide a significant amount of detail (eg solar power)... at least to his specific situation.Much of the advice relates to living in a manner of pre-industrial age...however, he tempers this with the recognition that this lifestyle is not for everyone. So, a good read for anyone thinking of homesteading and looking for cost savings.

Overview of the basics
Well written. Not a lot of details or how-to's but a comprehensive look into the basics. The author does note some other books that go into more in depth info on each subject. This is a great book to start off with though.

Surprisingly comprehensive and informative.
I have to admit I was sceptical when I read the blurb the n this book. But I was pleasantly surprised. I have purchased many homesteading and self-sufficiency books over the years and learned most of the subjects covered here in as great a depth as possible without actually doing it. Even so, I found this book to be surprisingly complete in its coverage and points out many things to consider before homesteading that most books fail to. I would, and have, recommended this book as a great primer to anyone considering the homesteading life.

wonderful and informative
With many, many book of this type at home, I have to place this one close to the top. The author has real PRACTICAL advice and knowledge. A favorite chapter is on getting along with neighbors. This is something that, I don't believe, many newbies think about. But it is very important in the scheme of things...as is the chapter on buying the land. Full of great things to know Before you buy.

Low Budget solutions
I have read several homesteading books that imply you need serious money to homestead. This book shows you how the author was able to do so on the cheap. Although he does not glamorize some of the deprivations they had, like living in a tent and cooking outside, he does emphasize the skills you need and how to work with what you already have, and most importantly, the attitude you need for success. There is an optimism and realism in this book that made it worth buying. He covers not only practical skills but social ones (How to get along with the community) and psychological skills like resilience and flexibilty. If I could only buy one book on homesteading, it might be this one.
