My vet says it's fine. The dog prefers non-diet food and continues to steal the big dogs' food whenever he can. Needless to say he hasn't lost much weight. The big dogs think that this diet food is delicious.I think if your dog sticks to this food only it can lose weight. Our dog's coat looks lovely and his poo is fine. No gas or bad breath. He has bunches of allergies and tolerates this food very well. This seems like a good food.ETA: Tut lost one pound. He weighed in on the vet's scale at 20.6 pounds. Pretty good for a small dog. One pound to go!

I have three little dogs--a Terrier mix, a Poodle, and a Shih Zhu. Feeding the first two is easy. They'll eat just about anything and stay healthy and active.Our little Shih Zhu, however, is another story. Most everything makes her vomit...and when she does, it's not pretty, especially during COVID lockdowns where grooming is often deferred (or happens in my ham-fisted way). She looked and acted pathetic.However, with this food, overnight her vomiting stopped. She seems to have more energy and is less grumpy than before, too. She'll never be a little ball of energy like our Poodle and Terrier--she's really more of a cat than a dog in many ways. But this makes her life (and consequently ours) about 1,000 percent better.

I have to watch what I feed my dog. She has an intolerance to grain. You state your dog food is grain free. Bought it for my little sweetheart so couldn’t figure out why she would get sick. Read the ingredients listed & sure enough there was flaxseed listed. Looked it up and it is a grain.

I had tried many different dog foods to help with weight loss and weight control for our 10 year old Chihuahua. Small breed healthy weight was the one that finally helped her shed a couple of pounds. It is the one that produced firm bowel movements also which was a first. I add a heaping tablespoon of ground turkey, with peas and carrots to make it more interesting to her.
