A-ha - A-ha: The Movie

Revealing documentary about an incredibly talented band
Documentary provides the story of A-ha from beginning to the present; the early struggles and flop single releases to the perfect mix of "Take On Me" and a record company having a change of plan and promoting that single for the third and final time with an expensive but memorable video that pushed them into the charts. The film gently rolls back and forth over the last forty years and interviews each member for their recollections of the events and the albums. A definition of success is not necessarily defined by record sales but by songwriting progression and maturity and they delivered a string of highly acclaimed albums. There is some noticeable disagreement between all members of the band now but it is a measure of their maturity (or respect for their huge fanbase) that they are still able to come together, work out their differences and put together live concerts and albums after all this time. Apart, and yet together.

Emotional Reminiscence of Their Entire Career So Far
I have been a massive a-ha fan since their very early days. I popped in this disc and watched it end to end. I have to say the constant need to read the captions was a little distracting at times, because a majority of the movie is in Norwegian audio. But, despite that distraction, I found the authentic Norwegian spoken word (from mostly Morten and Magne) to be somehow fascinating, because I cannot understand most of it, but it sounded mysterious and authentic. With the audio track out of the way, the movie itself was emotional for me, as a fan. One gets to see their early beginnings, and even glimpses into their childhood friendships, tragedy and the forging of friendships formed over the powerful passion of making music. The movie is interspersed with a-ha's hits over the decades at very well-timed points for a nice, emotional impact. All in all, I cannot recommend this movie enough, especially if you're an a-ha fan like I am.

Mostly enjoyed this. Wish there was more music.
Well done documentary. I do kind of wish there was more music included and an option for some English dubbing.

Very underrated rock band
Very detailed telling of this band's beginning and long history from the late 1970s to now. Very candid talk from each member, plus the fact they were offered to edit out anything they did not like - but none of them did - shows how true they are to each other.

Loved this band!
I loved this band when I was younger, and was really excited when I found I could order this from Amazon! I think I’ve watched about a quarter of it. Uummmm… wish they had a voiceover where we could hear the guys’ voices as they spoke in the background, but someone translating in our language in the foreground. I’m finding it distracting having to read subtitles (Morten and Magne are speaking in Norwegian. Love the accents, but would love to have been able to watch the movie without having to read a bunch of subtitles.)

Good blu-ray but English subtitles not synchronized
The movie itself is good, but unfortunately I had problems with the synchronization of the English subtitles. The German ones are fine.Asking other fans about it, it seems the problem is for the Blu-ray version only. The dvd version seems to be okay.
