Could I read this next to my partner and not wake him up?

Not knowing how deep a sleeper your partner is I can't be sure!! Chances are you'll be OK as there are 3 brightness levels.. Its a great light.

Is this too heavy to read a paperback with it clipped on?

Hello I find it works better clipped on to a few pages that I’ve read,otherwise it is too heavy

How wide does the clip go

I think the maximum it would grip would be just under 1inch the clip opens wider but does not grip.

Is it still bright on the lowest setting, can you still read in it?

Yes it’s good enough to to read with. I’ve had a few of this type of light over the years and this one is the best I’ve used.
