Why does the product description say "hardened plastic" in one spot, and "Premium Silicone" in another?

No idea why they said that in the description. I know what I received was firm rubber like material, that goes into the ports easily. I have no idea what they are made from. They are flexible and holds their shape, but not so soft that makes them difficult to insert.

Why is there metal on the headphone dust plugs?

Hi Brian, thank you for your question! The metal part of the plugs is the plug stopper you use when you have to pry the plugs out of your device's ports.
