I think if you had it totally packed to the gills where it couldn't be compressed at all, it could be more iffy. But we had no problem. **Q: Will the hip belt storage fit a large cellphone such as Galaxy s22 with spigen case?** A: You need to compare the measurements of the phone to the measurement of the pack. It has good sized belt storage. **Q: How waterproof is it? I've used hiking bags in the past as flotation devices when crossing deep rivers. Can this do the same?** A: Probably not - this pack is water resistant to a certain degree and has a separate rain fly to augment the water repellence of the bag, but it would likely take on water if immersed in the manner you are describing.
