Re-doing an older Weber Smokey Joe, and couldn't find a stock lower charcoal grill (wire style) in town.I ordered the appropriate sized one, and just got it this afternoon. First up, it fits the Smokey Joe perfectly. Secondly, this grate is thick and heavy Cast Iron - it reminds me of the old cast iron hibachi grills I grew up with, it's solid.Haven't cooked with it yet - I feel it should be seasoned first - similar to seasoning anything Cast Iron. I'll just use Crisco (old school) to do that, but I imagine the hot coals directly on the surface might burn off the factory oils (which is good.) Seasoning or not - or whether it develops rust isn't a big deal really..... it would take a massive amount of rust to render it unusable. It will probably last 20 to 50 years if taken care of. I'll still try to season it a few times with oil, and just roll with it.Once I get some cooks done, I will update.

Our original ceramic grate lasted years but eventually cracked under hundreds of heat/cool cycles. This Cast Iron grate should last even longer. So glad I made the decision to buy the Dracarys grate. The thickness is just right. Not too heavy. It feels sturdy in the bottom of my Egg and there is nothing to assemble. I just removed my old cracked grate and fit this cast iron grate right inside. I would buy this again in an instant if needed.

Place it on top of my gas stove's rather open iron burner grates for cooking with small pots. Small Moka coffee pot for example. Useful and efficient.

Slightly smaller than the original Big Green Egg fire grate and not quite as thick. Does however fit in the fire bowl. Hopefully it will last OK with the heat it will be subjected to.

Bought this as a replacement for the original BGE XL fire grate which developed a crack after about 10 years use. In about 6 months of use this one has sagged in the middle and now won't sit firmly on the supports in the fire box.
