MEDCENTER Digital Talking Medication Alarm Clock for Seniors

I have found a gem in this clock. I almost didn't get it because of the review saying it was so hard to set and the one that said it didn't talk to you but decided to give it a try anyway. Glad I did. If you have trouble setting it, get your grandchildren to give it a try. They can do miracles. It alarms up to 4 times a day to tell you to take medication. I have found many of the reviews on Amazon about this clock to be incorrect. It does have a talk mode which tells you the day and date and says to take your early morning meds, or evening meds. We only have those two set so not sure what it says for the mid morning or early afternoon meds. You can turn those reminders off, which some of the reviews say you can’t do. You can also set it to just alarm and not talk about taking meds if you want it for another purpose. Cost is just under 30.00, but I have been well please. It helps me remind others and myself to take meds. One thing I do like is that if you are in the other end of the house when it alarms, it will announce a couple of times and then stop and announce again in about 5 minutes when you are closer to it to turn it off. It continues this process for about 30 minutes before permanently ceasing the alarm process. It is very loud. We can hear it upstairs from the kitchen. I was very surprise on how loud it is. Would be great to awake a hard sleeper however it would be telling them to take medication but it announces the day, date and time each time also and seems to have a built in snooze feature. I was afraid about how hard it would be to set, but I was able to work my way through it. It might be you would need to get someone else to help you set it up the first time if you aren’t good with technology, but it would be worth the effort has been my experience. One reviewer said their dementia mother didn’t mind this clock telling her to take her meds the way she did the reviewer telling her. Interesting thought. Oh, it is battery driven so very portable. Easy to shut off. Red button is only one you have to be concerned with after it is set up. Once you depress the red button, it says "Alarm acknowledged." One review seemed to think that was the only words it spoke but that is not so. It will announce if set correctly. I've only had this clock for a couple of months, but see it will be packed with us along with meds when we travel since that is a time when we are most likely to forget. Someone asked why I didn't just set the smart phone as a reminder. I tried that and found it to be very aggravating as it would go off in church and everywhere. Just looking at this clock is a reminder in itself at times. If I am out watering the plants, my phone would go off and by the time I was back inside, I would have completely forgotten and miss my meds. This thing continues to give little reminders for about 30 minutes off and on so you don't miss it.

I have one medicine that I have to take four times a day and was having a real problem remembering to take it. This reminder clock is perfect. It can be set to beep or to a voice that tells me when it is time to take the pills. If I remember on my own and take the pills I can touch the "alarm acknowledged" button twice to clear it from going off and to make sure what time it plans to go off next; it tells you "alarm acknowledged" and "the next reminder will be the _____ alarm at (time)" so you know exactly when the next alarm will go off. I was not going to be home one day at pill time and found I can turn a single alarm off, then turn it back on when I get back--that way it doesn't beep too long with no one at home. It has a port for inserting an external power cord to plug into the wall but I have been using batteries and they haven't run down after several months of use. There is a light with a button to push to turn it on, but it doesn't light the dial very well but I don't need it to. The face of the clock shows the day, number of the day of the month, and the current time but it is rather dark, but all I need is the reminder alarms. Update: I have had this med reminder for almost a year now, I think--long time anyway. It still functions well but I have found a few flaws. My timer did not come with paper instructions, just a diagram on the box. The website says it should come with a paper copy of instructions so if yours does, be sure and save them in a safe place for future use. My four times a day medicine was changed to one I took three times a day and I could not figure out how to turn off the 12 pm alarm. After giving up I asked my husband to see if he could do it and somehow he did; but he can't remember how. Now I'm supposed to use a med four times a day and I couldn't figure out how to turn the noon alarm back on. My husband tried and he couldn't either. I went to the company's website and downloaded instructions for my model of alarm. The problem is, they must have changed the set up of the buttons but kept the model number. On the instructions one of the buttons on my alarm is not there anymore but I hoped the instructions would work anyway. They did not; but I found where they said the alarm was automatically set to four times a day when the batteries are inserted. Instead of noon the set times included 1 pm so that was close enough for me. I took out the batteries and waited a second and put them back in. Sure enough, the four times a day automatic settings worked. Of course I had to reset the hour, minutes, date, and year. I just hope I don't have to change the frequency or times of alarms in the future. The second annoying thing about the alarm is the volume. There are only two settings, "loud" and "extra loud". The loud setting is really loud and I have never tried the extra loud setting. The alarm is placed on my computer desk since that is near where I keep my meds. There is a phone near there too and if the alarm comes on while I'm on the phone I can't hear the caller and they can't hear me. Usually they gasp, "What is that?!!!!" and I explain it is my pill reminder. Pushing the button to shut off the alarm doesn't help because it goes on to tell you the time and when your next alarm is due. Most of the time that is fine and I don't want to shut off the voice feature but it can be annoying.

Previously my loved one used an obsolete cell phone's alarm clock function to take his afternoon pills. But the phone died and I needed to find another option. This alarm does the trick. It's loud and persistent which will wake him from a snooze, and it's annoying enough he's forced to get up and turn it off! Exactly what was needed in this situation! Though it can be set to announce reminders several times a day, my LO only uses it for one medication reminder per day. It's fairly simple to program whatever you need. As I mentioned, it's loud (though there's a quieter setting available) and PERSISTENT, but if that's what you're looking for, I'd highly recommend it.

So far so good but time will tell. It hasn't been a full week yet but it has to be an improvement over the missing doses I would find left behind in her weekly/4xdaily pill dispenser I set up each week. I set it up at my house to go off four times a day and found it very simple and easy to do. I brought it to her and explained it as best I could. All she would have to do each time it reminded her is hit the big red Alarm Acknowleged button on top. She did say it scared the "bleep" out of her when it went off although I called her right before to warn her (sigh) but she seems to be doing ok with it now. And I set it on LOUD not extra loud despite her hearing loss so thank God for that. My only complaint is that I set it for 8am, 10am, 12 noon and 7 pm and couldn't get the 10am reminder to say "Good Morning" just "Good Afternoon" despite being on am and trying it several times. Not sure if that is my fault and I didn't understand it properly or a faulty design. I plan to check it when I go back tomorrow. Otherwise I think it's a simple device, not too cumbersome and hopefully will help her keep her independence a little longer.

I bought this medication timer reminder; I am grateful that I did. I also purchased the AC plug-in so I don't have to change the batteries out. The volume is very loud. (You can cover the speaker with tape to soften the loudness). You can choose to have it beep constantly until you hit the red acknowledged button, or it will say "Good morning, it's time to take your 8:00 AM medication", and it repeats until you push the red button. It will activate every few minutes, be silent, and then once again, remind you for another minute. If I know that I won't be home, I will turn it off as my shared wall, next-door neighbors may be able to hear it. It holds four separate consistent alarm times for each day. I recommend this product.

This device is just what I needed! I've been battling for months to get my elderly mother to take her medicines regularly. That involved phone calls, visits, notes to remind her and a detailed pill box (that I thought seemed very straight forward). But she would still go days without taking any medicine. Even though we got a wall clock that listed the day, date and time, it wasn't enough. Argh. But today (a week after setting up the MedCenter Talking Alarm Clock), I went to visit and noted that her pill box has been used twice a day, every day, all week!. No missed doses! She says, "It's great." Others have commented that it was a bit of a challenge to set up but I did not find it too difficult (FYI: my octogenarian parents would never have been able to do it themselves but anyone who can set the time on a digital watch will be fine). The fact that the day of the week is listed on the front is key. Using the voice alarm, it does say to take medicines for the date (rather than the day of the week), but this seems to be working for us anyway. Note that it has a DC power option but no cord is included. The batteries were in place on arrival but perhaps good to plan for the need to replace batteries. Overall, VERY pleased with the purchase!

My 4-year-old son doesn't have particularly complex medication requirements, but he does have to take a medication twice a day. Because he's too young to remember or be responsible, and between his mom, his dad, and sitters, we were concerned about remembering that he needed to take it and keeping track to make sure he didn't get two doses because one adult didn't know a different adult had already taken care of it. So when he first started taking medicine regularly, a couple of years ago, we bought this reminder alarm clock. It's been great: you can set up to four alarms each day, and the alarm is easily audible (two settings: "loud" and "extra loud") and clear. It can beep or it can offer specific instructions: "Take your evening pills for Tuesday, October 23". It will go off repeatedly until acknowledged. It has big, clear buttons in primary colors, and pressing them gives specific feedback: you can check when the next alarm will go off--you don't need to worry that you've missed some alarm setting that disables it. We can be sure that if the alarm is going off, he needs his medicine. And if it's not, he's gotten any doses he needs. We never worry, stress or question it. With its clear controls and reminders, I believe it would also be ideal for leaving with an older person who might be forgetful about taking their own pills.

I was looking for several things in an alarm clock: (1) a loud alarm because without my hearing aids, I don't hear regular alarms, (2) something easy to set up, (3) a light to light up the face of the clock, (4) an AM, PM indicator, (5) nice large numbers and letters with good contrast with the background, (6) some of the features have to be turned off because I am Sabbath observant. I found all six of these requirements in the MedCenter 4 Alarm Talking Reminder Clock and more! I sometimes forget to take my meds on time in the afternoon and early evening, though I get to taking them eventually, but this alarm clock has done the trick for me. Now, I never miss my meds (unless I'm out of the house, in which case, I plan for that, and then don't miss the meds) when I'm at home paying attention to other things. I truly love this alarm clock and now I don't know how I got along without it. It's as close to perfect as you can get!

It was easy to set up, and the manual was helpful, but everything resets back to default settings if I try replacing the batteries.

Bought this for my mother who lives alone and forgets to take her meds. It reminds her twice a day (can be set for additional prompts) to take her meds by telling her in words it's time to take them.

I am Melissa, I used my husbands account to order this. The package arrived exactly when they said it would. Everything was intact and was nice that it included batteries, however it doesn't come with a power cord, but has a plug in the back, so you can purchase that separately. I happened to have the right power cord at home, but I had to exchange the batteries that it came with, with rechargeable batteries, before using the power cord, otherwise it would have ruined the clock with the regular AA's, could even have been a fire hazard too, so be sure to do the same if you get a power cord for it. The instructions were simple to follow and love that it gives you the option of either a beep alarm or voice. I chose the voice and thought the volume was perfect, both my n'laws are hard of hearing so now they will hear the voice alarm to take their medication. They take their meds twice a day, so I only had to use 2 of the 4 alarms, you can set the other 2 alarms to OFF. I like that it shows the day of the week too, they have a calendar in every room , but never know what day it is, so this is perfect in every way, I hope it has a good shelf life, will keep you posted if it doesn't. Worth the money in my opinion.

bought this for my mother in law who is very independent but is suffering from memory loss god bless her this alarm has made my wifes life simpler as her mum is now much better at taking her medication thanks for a great product
